Has an offer to join the mountain west. I’m all for it there out there by themselves outside of our footprint. Who do we go to keep our conference at 14 teams

It won’t be Jax State or Kennesaw state we have better options and the conference wouldn’t want 3 teams from the same state. Same for La Tech. Kennesaw state would have a better shot than Jax state. Jax is decent at football and that’s as far as it goes. They bring nothing to the table.
Likely WKU, decent football most the time and good basketball, they will be forgiven for leaving the first time.
Conference will also make a Call to ECU but doubt they budge at this time.

This would get interesting. Although ages ago the Old Gulf Coast Conference was arguably the toughest D2 conference and there were four teams from Alabama in it. The Sun Belt currently has one team from Mississippi, two teams from Louisiana, two from Alabama, two from Georgia, one from North Carolina, two from Virginia, one from West Virginia and one from Texas. So if they don't add another from Louisiana, Alabama, or Georgia then they will have to take Western KY. I don't see East Carolina coming.

AAC really isn’t much better than the SBC. And the SBC is the perfect fit for ECU with baseball. Likely not this time but I can see a move eventually. WKU is likely the target.

AAC may not be much better in terms of talent standpoint but they make more money and in the end that’s what it’s all about Their TV contract will change despite the time set due to all the pull outs from conference. They are not going to get the same money if no one leaves without Cincy, Houston, UCF. But even then it must be an equal move with savings significantly better on travel and rivalry. So, it could happen but for now WKU.

I saw an ESPN article stating TX state informed the sunbelt it was not leaving for the the mountain west. It sort of hinted they may be holding out for “pac12”

It sort of hinted they may be holding out for “pac12” da be gonst if the Pac 2-9 come a callin. They have to travel anyway and to have Boise, Wash St, Org St on the schedule. I think it would be a very reasonable decision. They have hung in with us and so tomorrow nite maybe our last time of getting a shot at them. As to their replacement? WKU is probably top of the heap. It does not appear that the AAC will break down. If they did that is the only way East Carolina has a shot at becoming a Belt member.

cornhole would rather make away game visits to San An/Austin than Rustin, or even "up there' at OD or JMU's.

As much as I would like to have ECU in the SBC it will take a lot of shuffling in the AAC before they will consider us (even IF some of their fans seem to like the thought). I PERSONALLY think that once Texas State bails on the SBC, the conference should recognize their attempts (Texas State is the 6th time) to include Texas in our conference footprint is not going to be successful and move on to strengthen the footprint in the current "region" (including the states of FL, KY, TN that are currently NOT represented). Looking at FORMER SBC schools (NOT IN TEXAS) that bring the sports most associated with the SBC: Men - baseball, basketball, football & Women:basketball, soccer, volleyball, you come up with a list of nine that "fit" the conference: FAU, FIU, LA Tech, MTSU, UAB, UCF, UNCC, USF, WKU. I agree that WKU appears to be the darling of those who have danced with us before!

I agree that WKU appears to be the darling of those who have danced with us before! FA Who and FI Who bring absolutely nothing to a conference other than a TV market. They literally draw flies to games and are nothing to write home about in athletics. USF and UCF basically think they are UF or FSU and technically they are (both have bigger enrollments and are in bigger markets). UCF has already went to the Big 12 and USF is building a new stadium so they might be next. MTSU doesn't bring much either other than a geographic fit. UAB and WKU are fits but UAB thinks it's Alabama so I think WKU comes back

Like Cornhole, I like locations better than opposing teams. A trip to South Florida, San Antonia, or Orlando is much more desirable.

It is possible that Texas State would accept an invitation to become a member of the PAC 8; Ark St could be invited to Mountain West as that conference needs one more full member since UTEP agreed to join. No one from the current Mountain West will depart the conference, and no one from the AAC will go to the MWC either. That leaves very few current FBS football schools as options (i.e. New Mexico State, Sam Houston State). If both TX ST and ARK ST choose to leave the Sun Belt, we would have to make a decision to either stick with 12 schools or get back to 14. Don't be surprised if we get MTSU and WKU back in the fold again.
Go TROY!
