Did great things building things up but have/are staying way too long. Things did/have gotten stale in this situation. Let it go, need fresh blood.

We just received the designation as a research university, we're building new buildings for new majors, and improvements are being made to athletic facilities. If this is stale half the teams in our conference would like to order 15 truck loads of stale, please.

Troy University is massively in debt and its endowment is painfully low. People don’t think colleges can struggle with financial woes, but they can and have and some can fall behind to be a shell of their former selves or even shudder. And enrollment has actually struggled /declined to keep pace the past few years. All those things mentioned, some have been decades in development. JH has built Troy University, no doubt. He has done wonders. Same with Larry Blakeney, it’s best to go out on top. As stated, the BOT also is the issue. Plus he is old. Let the man go, he has served the University and his country, let him retire and enjoy his last few years.

I will not counter the argument that he is old and has served both his country and the university well. I think those are indisputable facts. I will say, however, that I'm not convinced he want's to go, in spite of his announced "retirement". If we are to believe the statements by both he and the BOT, they came to him Friday, told him they didn't accept his resignation and asked him to stay. He said he and Mrs Dear Leader talked, and decided there was still work to be done, so he'd stay. All of this happened in one 30 hour period of time and, speaking as someone who retired recently after a 28 year tenure at my my job, I don't believe that if retirement was his sincere desire, he'd be talked out of it that easily. That's just my opinion and that plus $7 will get you a Grande Mocha latte at Starbucks.

My honest opinion is Jack has done a fantastic job over his career. I don’t like some of the things he has done but overall, we are a school that has name recognition. If he wants to stay, then so be it. I say this with a daughter that will be on campus soon. She is in love with Troy. She has visited other schools and none come close to Troy. With Jack and Troy, you know what to expect and in terms of the big picture, we tend to win more than we lose.

I think the Board of Trustees showed a high level of laziness here. Instead of accepting the challenge to find the next great leader that will shape our fine university and build on Hawkins’ legacy, they shriveled in fear.

It has to be pretty staggering. In the last 15 years or so we have built a new basketball arena/graduation facility, a new alumni hall, a new dining hall, a new fitness center, the North end zone complex, upgrades to the baseball and softball facilities, the Golf facility, and two new academic buildings
