MY TAKE on the announcement is the AHSAA is just going old school and will return to their roots. I remember when the championship game was played every year at Legion Field. I expect the follow up announcement to be a return to Birmingham permanently at Protective Stadium (Legion Field 2.0).

In fairness to everyone. Yes, the potential of hosting a playoff game rules out the two SEC schools. True, the other schools in the state have less than a 1% chance of HOSTING, not that we can't get in the playoffs... but Troy ain't hosting anytime soon. I hope some of it was also the fact that the environment for a championship game was terrible when you're putting high schools in stadiums that hold 90-100K people. So I think they got this one right, even if it stays in Bham forever, the centralized location makes sense as does Crampton Bowl. I think a historical look at the last 10 years might help them determine if it should move to a southern school like Troy or South. All in all, this was a good move by the AHSAA.

I was wondering what site in Montgomery would be their first consideration ... Crampton Bowl with 25,000 seating capacity OR ASU Stadium with 26,500 seating capacity?
