Any word yet on what the theme(s) will be for halftime this year? Anything new going to happen?

Careful now you're showing your age with this reference. But it's funny.

Been saying this for far too many years. We were once one of the best bands in America and now we are one of the worst. I’m on team iPod.

I talked to a member the other day and they said the band is playing a piece called Caravan which was played in 98 and mid 2000’s. Just another regurgitated show of Mark Walker. While better than the mess they have played in the passed years. The program needs a new marching band director. The band doesn’t have the swagger like they use to back in the 70-90’s.

I was a past member of the band from the 90s and I use to pay my dues to the band alumni chapter. Now, I just pay them to the university. The band isn’t getting any of my money til they find someone to take over the Sound of the South. Walker is great at concert music but marching band is not his forte’.

So …
The position that was posted LAST AUGUST, Associate Director of Bands/Director of Athletic Bands, that supposedly had been narrowed down to three candidates in December and we expected someone to be in place by the new year (January, 2024) …
Has resulted in NO CHANGE OR did they end up not filling the position with anyone they interviewed ⁉️

I know there just needs to be a change for the Sound of the South.

Is the halftime show just one song? I know that Talladega College ate up some time but The Sound of the South went onto the field played the Fanfare (which I still hate), one song, then the fight song and left.

Just specualtion but i'd guess the heat was a factor in marching SOTS all around the field. Collapsing Sousaphones and drum majors ain't pretty. The Marching Tornado from Talladega were obviously in better shape! Just happy to have them back.

I didn't understand not having them on the field for the team entrance. My daughter did SOTS and it was just as hot when she did it. The Savannah St game her freshman year 2013 was maybe hotter than yesterday

We were late arriving to the stadium, but listening to Barry on the radio … they announced on the pregame show at about 5:10 pm that a lightning strike had just been recorded BARELY within the designated perimeter. They even mentioned that with the sun shining over the stadium people would not understand, then went on to say they were hoping it would only impact pregame activities and only have a slight delay on the kickoff (and radio / TV coverage).
We were in the stadium within 15 minutes and all seemed “normal” except SOTS was not on the field!?!

The Savannah St game her freshman year 2013 was maybe hotter than yesterday My child is in the band and I asked when we got home. He said the reason there was no pre show was because the weather in the area and they didn’t want to take a chance with lightning and the bottom dropping down. They were all upset but it was orders that came down from the above. Not sure if it was Walker or athletic staff. Either way, the band sounded great. As far as the halftime show. They have not completed the whole show during practices yet but should be completed by the time FAMU comes to town.

And I guess lighting doesn't strike the stands or tailgaters. This makes zero sense
