TROY – The southern Alabama sun sizzled and so did the Troy running backs on Monday, the first day the Trojans donned pads in fall camp. With the ability to make some full-contact plays in spurts, the Trojans tailback corps had several solid runs to the outside and even made plays in the passing game. Still, Trojans’ head coach Larry Blakeney said he saw places where his team could improve the rushing attack. “I thought we had some good things. We missed some blocks, but at the same time, we made some runs,” he said. “It’s a two-way deal when you’re going against each other – can you run the football and can you stop the run? “It’s somewhere in between I hope.” With all running backs who contributed in 2013 back except Daron White, the Trojans have plenty of experience returning in the backfield. Coupled with a veteran offensive line that is fairly deep, and Troy’s ground game could be the bright spot offensively in 2014. Last year’s leading rusher, Daleville’s Brandon Burks appears to be stronger so far in camp. “I tried to hit the weight room for all areas of my body. I’ve got good speed. (Now) I’ve got to bring the power,” the junior said. “(I’m) trying to be explosive instead of making so many cuts in the hole.” ( Full Article) iconTroy3

I'm happier anytime a player says he has taken film study seriously. When CR started commented that he had, he threw fewer ints. With Burks taking it to the next level, I hope it trickles down through the rest of the RBs...

Our run game looks like it will be solid this year; depth at O-line will help with that. If that stays true, IMO, there is only need for one QB. Particularly a pocket passer. A solid run game will open up the posts, digs, and other deep routes in the passing game and we could really have a legitimate deep ball threat; especially with a guy like Tidwell who has the best deep ball touch of the 4 QB's. (Check Ole Miss game last year). I'd like to see DT insert himself into the conversation for the starting position, but I've heard it said multiple times in the off season that his body language is not good...he lacks some confidence. The two at the top right now don't lack for it or ability. I'm getting ready to ride this train back to where this team belongs...and don't really care who it is as long as the team is winning. #TurnDown4Wut

Silvers and Pruitt have great touch on the long ball.

What receiver position is Ruben playing? With his speed, I'd like to see him on deep balls often. He may be more of a close range guy with yards after contact like Jernigan, though.

I've seen Pruitt throw some really nice passes so far in camp. Pruitt is special. We have a very talented offense at least 2 deep. If our corners will play some ball it should get very interesting.

He had ridiculous stats in juco last year. 51 TDs, 7 INTs, 1 Sack. One sack all year is a big deal most people don't think about. Of his 51 TDs, 6 were rushing (500+ yards). CR was one of the best QBs we've ever had, but IMO he took too many sacks (19 last season). I suspect if DP is our guy, sacks won't be an issue.

Both guys are very very good. Pruitt looked really good when I saw him. Silvers was very good as well. Don't be fooled, Silvers runs very very well himself.

I think he starts with Pruitt seeing action. I think Pruitt's offensive package will have many more passing opportunities than previous years. I think the competition is making silvers much better. I will say this - if Pruitt starts over a very talented Silvers who has been around the program for 2 yrs (And Silvers from what I hear is a very good teammate as well), then Pruitt is a natural born leader and playmaker. He is special.

Bravard and Tidwell looking alright? Are they getting quality reps? I'd like to know that we have a third option in case we get Levi Brown'd. Not that that was a bad thing at all...

Just my opinion that there is a clear 2 man battle for the starting position. The others are getting reps, but I'm sure those will go down once a starter and backup are named.

I love the fact that both can run. Pruitt is very fast and that adds a great dimension. With our rb's we have and a QB that the defense will actually have to account for, will make read option deadly. My only concern with Pruitt is his size and wil he be able to take the hits. I have confidence in both running this offense.
