Less than a month away from the season opener, the Troy Trojans are focused on reloading offensively and rebuilding defensively. Troy (6-6, 4-3) led the league in scoring (34.1 points per game), total offense (463.2 yards per game) and passing offense (322.2 ypg). It wasn't so pretty on the defensive side as the Trojans ranked seventh in the Sun Belt in points allowed (35.9 ppg) and rock bottom in total defense (483.2 ypg), pass defense (313.6 ppg) and interceptions (6). In addition, the Trojans were seventh in the conference in turnover margin at minus-8 (11-19) and dead last in kickoff return yardage (15.1). Larry Blakeney, the dean of SBC head coaches with a 175-104-1 record in 23 seasons on the Trojans' sideline, welcomes back eight starters on offense. However, Troy must figure out a way to offset the losses of its two primary playmakers, quarterback Corey Robinson and wide receiver Eric Thomas, both of whom earned first-team All-Conference honors. Redshirt freshman Brandon Silvers and juniors Dontreal Pruitt, who helped East Mississippi Community College win the NJCAA national championship in 2013, Dallas Tidwell and Connor Bravard are in the hunt to succeed Robinson.
