Good year for the secondary coming?: After another year of dismal performances by the Troy defense against the pass game, the Trojans sorely need a good year from its secondary. Dondrell Harris, a redshirt freshman who plays nickelback, thinks this will be the year the defensive backs deliver. “I expect a big year out of the defense. I expect a good fall camp,” he said. Harris pointed to a good spring camp a few months ago, saying the secondary forced a lot of turnovers. “Our coaches are getting us in better position. That led to a lot of interceptions,” he said. The secondary is undergoing several changes this year, and not just in personnel. The Trojans experimented with zone coverage in the spring plus have added former Alabama State defensive back Al Pogue as its cornerbacks coach. Roberts not only leader on defensive line: Even though he is a preseason all-Sun Belt first team selection and the only returning starter from last year’s defensive line, Tyler Roberts is quick to say he shares defensive line leadership with others. “We have a couple of seniors on the defensive line, Brandon Timmons and Billy Dobbs, and so they’re doing their part,” the junior said. “They’ve been through it all, so they are there to help out the young guys and me. It’s just not one solitary role.” ( Full Article) iconTroy3
