2014 Season Outlook Troy opens with a winnable game at UAB and then Duke comes to town in the second week. They round out the non-conference schedule against FCS transitional team Abilene Christian and the SEC powerhouse Georgia. 2-2 seems like the right record for Troy after four games. The Louisiana-Monroe game is a toss up, but games against New Mexico State and Appalachian State at home are definitely winnable. They travel to South Alabama and Georgia Southern before another soft part of the schedule appears. Georgia State and Idaho are both beatable before they finish at home against Louisiana-Lafayette. UAB, Abilene Christian, New Mexico State, Appalachian State, Georgia State, and Idaho are all winnable games that would get Troy to 6 wins. Toss in a win against Georgia Southern, plus an upset along the line and Troy will have 8 wins. It is hard to see Troy not winning at least six games and reaching bowl eligibility, if not contending for the Sun Belt crown. The hope this year is that they actually get invited. When was Brandon Burks a linebacker?
Spikner and Davis are gone.
He had no faith in the new quarterbacks.

Hemi, agree on Burks, (?) not sure how much losing Spinner will impact us but Davis......I saw the back of his jersey way too often chasing his open receiver downfield for me to regret his absence. WHO had no faith in the QB's?

WHO had no faith in the QB's? replace Robinson. Redshirt Brandon Silvers had a great spring and is the frontrunner, but junior college transfers Dontreal Pruitt and Connor Bravard could both figure as well. Regardless, this unit will not come close to the production of Robinson last year (322 yards passing per game in 2013). This is the part that I was talking about with a lack of confidence in the quarterbacks. Spikner was going to be pretty good in the zone coverage this year.

I think Silvers could be way better than Corey. He is more athletic and Mobil and his throwing mechanics are 100% better, but game play will tell.. I think you will see him and Pruitt alternate s lot . I like the speed that Priutt brings to the position also.. A Mobil, athletic QB in this offense opens up a lot of plays.

That's what happens when you paraphrase someone else's work...

I agree about questions around the QB's but I can't say that they can't match last year. You never know. Silvers was suppose to be highly recruited out of HS and this is his 3rd year here so he's no beginner. The transfers look good but I would love seeing that 6'8" QB on the end of the offensive line occasionally. I don't think we will throw as often as last year or years before. Our running game is very good.

Silvers was rated the #27 QB in the nation out of HS.

His speed and running ability are no where near Pruitts but he is 100% more nimble than CR and runs well enough to run zone read. I think that it will be him and Pruitt playing against UAB.

It's a system offense, so a 4-yr starter is just about records, at this point...the one that will help put up the most Ws is more valuable right now. So far as the comparisons to "running," it's a moot point with CR in the convo. This competition is far from over and I just wish that DT was a more assertive personality...I think he should be pulling double-duty to be the man, at this time. I believe that DP, after winning natty, could be hungrier to succeed and change the "culture" from the past 3 yrs than our homegrown guys. And where does that leave CB?

Not sure that DT or CB will be factors unless injuries happen. I think you will see Silvers and Pruett rotating

My personal preference is the most capable, which doesn't equate to height, but I do like that attribute for a passer.

Silvers is the most complete of the QB's as far as height, speed and arm strength. I can tell you after being on the field last spring, DP and CB are way shorter than they are listed. DP has a very strong arm and is very quick. His height may hurt but not a big issue IMO.
