Someone on the SoBama board did this work, so I'm not sure how accurate it is, but it's interesting data.
Speaking of radio affiliates, here's how many radio stations carry each Sun Belt school's football games: 1. Troy - 18 stations / 3 states 2. Georgia Southern - 17 stations 3. Appalachian State - 14 stations / 4 states 4. Georgia State - 10 stations 5. ULL - 8 stations 6. ULM - 8 stations 7. New Mexico State - 7 stations 8. Idaho - 6 stations 9. Arkansas State - 3 stations 10. Texas State - 2 stations 10.. South Alabama - 2 stations Other local teams: Tulane - 12 stations (one in Chattahooche, FL) Southern Miss - 10 stations UAB - 4 stations Jacksonville State - 3 stations
I think I'll have a beer.

The AM station out of Dothan is clearer than their FM counterpart at my house. 50 miles from Dothan. Of course I can also pick up two other stations that are closer, but the WOOF station is sports only that I have to flip to AM when I get home to hear. I think I'll have a beer.

Most everyone never even tunes their radio to AM, that was my point. Also, I know in Florida they can't broadcast at night, it goes to Spanish only. Fm you might get people traveling, scanning through and pick up the game, or fans scan the radio. I know when I left after the game (pre daughter in SOTS) we would scan trying to pick up the post game. Granted I don't know what stations are what there but I never dreamed to try AM.

AM waves are a funny thing. They bounce off of the ionosphere leaving holes between bounces. Your house could be a special case within one of the bounce zones. Their AM tower (and its FM counterpart) is 300 feet tall and is attached to the WOOF building. They operate at 5,000 watts during the day and 125 watts at night. Their FM tower (99.7) is 1,021 feet tall, located down the street in Webb, and operates at roughly 103,000 watts. The Ball (100.1) starts to go south for me as I'm leaving Ozark, WOOF-AM (560) starts to go south near Brundidge, where WOOF-FM (99.7) doesn't start to really fade for me until about 10 miles south of Montgomery. On a really clear day I can take WOOF-FM about 20 miles south of Birmingham. The coverage and quality is no where near the same. I'm not sure how many people listen to WOOF-AM 560 over WTBF 94.7 for Troy games. I've been in the studio with Lance a few times before and may drop in for another Troy segment soon.

Yea and it depends on the weather as well at my house. I do enjoy Lance's show in the mornings though. I think I'll have a beer.
