OK guys, bear with me or a minute. As someone who doesn't own a business or control the discretionary or advertising funds of one, I have little understanding of the whole NIL landscape. All I know about it is that it allows a student athlete to be paid for the use of his Name, or image, or likeness. Help me understand. How will this, and other agreements like it, help our programs in their recruiting efforts? Do other schools not have such agreements in place? Is there something unique about our agreements that give us an edge over our competitors? If other schools have these type agreements, do these agreements just serve to keep us on level ground with our conference mates/G5 brethren?
I'm not looking to argue about the importance of these agreements because I have no idea how they will work or ultimately, what they will accomplish. I'm looking to be educated. Help a dumb ole country boy nurse understand, please.

IMO, it's a short term edge. If other G-5 and P-5 programs are to be competitive, they will need to level the playing field with similar NIL programing.

Help a dumb ole country boy nurse understand, please. Solid question. Take the REAL P5 teams out of this conversation. They have been doing this for some time now. Get down to the general P5 teams who are fortunate to be in big money conferences but ultimately bring nothing to the table and add them to 99% of the G5 teams. What Troy rolled out this week is better than all of those, it's a total package. NIL Collective through PlayFly sports allows funds from donors to be given to student athletes to represent them in whatever way decided by the two parties. Personally speaking, I have a couple social media deals and plan to have many more with various sports. IDEA Bank - financial literacy, tax implications, NCAA compliance, personal branding are all taught. I can assure you 10% or less of all schools are going this far Brandr Group - helps them with licensing their brand, for instance, players can work with vendors to have their names on jerseys and sale them You asked what this will accomplish and how it will help with recruiting. We lost a really good basketball player this year due to an NIL deal being available to him. I posted months ago that we would fall behind quickly if we did not step up. We have more than stepped up, recruits can see that we offer the total package now and as we recruit against other G5 programs, athletes don't care about facilities anymore, they want money just like the rest of us do. Times have changed and I'm proud of Troy for leading the way. NO doubt this is the best plan in the Sun Belt / Conference USA / MAC / WAC, any of those.

It's my understanding that no other program in the country has offered a NIL certificate program and I do not believe anyone else is offering players the ability to brand their names on jerseys and get paid for it. I'm not sure if any other school is allowing players to use school branding in their NIL deals either. In fact, I believe Alabama and Auburn strictly prohibit or at least did to begin with (and I believe the original legislation that the state passed may have banned that aspect, too).
