Jon Sumrall will put together a staff. They will recruit players that will win games, wherever they are.

I remember that he said Troy offered the HC job when Neal announced, and he wanted to take over, but his wife said he should go with Neal so he decided to do what was best for his family. I respect that and I respect all VK did for us. I hate that he carries “baggage” as light as it might be. All respect though for him and what he did to bring back TMTDM. Everyone to some extent has baggage. It boils down to if CJS is going to let this deter him or go with a solid coach that is a proven winner. I’d much rather have Brandon Hall as DC. No baggage, the players seem to like him. He’s proved himself. I’d like to see Al Pogue stay as well. Who’s he bringing in on the Offensive side of the ball? Lets fix what’s broken and GO!

The offensive side is where we need NEW BLOOD. We need a new perspective, young and aggressive. We need a solid OL coach who can spot talent and coach it up and we need a OC IMO outside of the current system with some new ideas on the spread and utilizing a athletic mobile QB

I wonder what the chances are, if any, of Vic Koenning returning as DC. I know that's wishful thinking, but I wonder how much that ridiculous "issue" at WVU affects his ability to coach college still. I'm also not sure if he's mad at Troy for not hiring him to be HC last go-round. Thoughts?? I'm not sure how well recruits would take that and it would be used against him by other schools a lot. Same with current players who weren't here his last time. I'm afraid it wouldn't work well at all. You are right on all points, especially that other schools would use it against us in recruiting. Justified or not, once you've been cancelled, it's usually for a long time, and he was cancelled HARD.

Don't misunderstand what I'm about to say, and it would be easy to do so. We need an OL coach that can spot and utilize the best player for a position. We need and OL coach that can coach and develop the talent that is on the roster. I don't think the cupboard is bare. I think a competent OL coach could do very well with our talent. I said this early on but we had a VERY young OL, especially on the right side. When you are starting a RS Freshman and a Sophomore on your OL, you either are not very deep, or the person responsible for roster decisions is doing a poor job. I think we'll be better next year, just because they have a year of experience. Now, let's go get the best OL coach we can.

Should Sumrall bring Ryan Pugh back to Troy? He’s currently at Southern. He was going to Baylor but that old black face photo came up and he got fired.

I was never very impressed with the output of his coaching. Not sure why we’d be improving with that hire. The OL needs a lot of TLC from a really, really good coach. And…. I’m hoping that we upgrade with a mobile QB to help that group by taking some pressure off them with that mobility.

Everything is on the board. I wonder if there could be a scheme change? Nothing major I mean I don’t expect to come out in the Wing T or nothing.

I think we have all mentioned it. A lot starts up front. O line and D line. Running the ball is huge. Kimani could be even better with the o line Chunn or DeWitt had. Hey bring back the Veer or the triple option!!😂

Let's see what Coach can do with talent better than App State, Georgia State, etc. I think he will do fantastic - maybe not win a conference championship year 1 but bet he gets one year two or three - IF HE CAN HOLD ON TO OUR BEST TALENT - some will need to be run off but he has a good foundation 247sports.com/Season/2021-Football/CollegeTeamTalentComposite/87 Troy Troy 63 Commits 82.24 0 4 42 509.16 88 Appalachian State Appalachian State 84 Commits 81.49 0 1 63 502.55

I imagine like with Neal Brown. His most important hire was the DC… but with JS it will likely be OC.

Scheme wise it seemed our run game was extremely vanilla. Blocking from the H Back position was not existent at best. Sun Belt teams for the most part know how to stop the run. One thing HCNB and former ULL Coach Napier did to change the conference form a pass happy ball to brawl ball.

I disagree!! Coastal Carolina finished 5-7 (2-6) in 2019. Similar to Troy, except Coastal had less talent on their roster than Troy currently does. The next season, they go 11-0 (8-0), beating Kansas, #21 Louisiana, and #13 BYU. Anything is possible with a great coach.
