TROY, Ala. – One of the top young coaches in college softball, Beth Mullins has been named the second head coach in Troy University's NCAA Division I softball history, Athletic Director John Hartwell announced Tuesday. "We are extremely excited that after an extensive nationwide search with tremendous interest to have one of the rising stars in the softball coaching world as our new head coach," Hartwell said. "Beth's extensive experience in coaching and playing, along with her south Alabama roots, make her a great fit for the job. "Beth has a strong track record of recruiting high-level student-athletes from not only Alabama, but also across the Southeast," Hartwell said. "With the combination of our new facility and Beth's tradition of success, we are excited for the future of the Troy softball program." Mullins just completed her third season as an assistant coach at Mississippi State and has previous coaching stops at Western Kentucky, UAB and Georgia Southern following an all-conference playing career at UAB. From the sound of it she came in late and stole the show!
I think I'll have a beer.

Well have to see. No head coaching experience. Hope she can recruit, that has killed us the last few years.

St. Is probably the 8th best team in the SEC and she had never been a head coach. Not in HS, juco, D11 so we don't have anything to go on. Hope she leads us to great heights but we will have to see.

I know you're a little bummed he didn't pick your guy, but it's a positive step for the program...let's see the big smile and give us a Go Trojans! smiley-eatdrink009

She got the job over some current D1 coaches so there's obviously something that impressed those doing the interviewing.
I think I'll have a beer.

I like the fact that she worked under Vann the last few years, and I hope that can translate over to Troy in the way she manages. I am now anxious to find out who the pitching coach will be and if she hires some assistant coaches that may have some head coaching experience or a more lengthy tenure. I know the SEC experience will be valuable. Do you think she was our first choice? Or did we get turned down by some current D1 coaches?

The way they make it sound is a lot of people applied and interviewed.... I think she was our first choice honestly.
