From the Faculty-Senate-Minutes from 4-23-2018 found on the Troy Website:
The Trojan Fitness Center is under construction. The project was driven by students who voted to add $100 per term to student bills in order to build it.

We would like it and the tax payers (Mommy and Daddy) will pay it.

How many terms does the fee get charged? 5k students times 100 bucks is 500k. That is a tidy sum to be collecting 3X a year.

Saw the link on instagram Impressive to say the least but it makes me wonder where this money is coming from and no wonder college is so expensive today If we do not have competitive facilities, future students (paying customers) may opt elswhere. We could still be a $5000 per year college and offer no D-1 Athletics, no state of the art anything and attract about 1000 freshmen a year?? Is that what you want for your alma mater???

If all 28,000 are charged it (unlikely) that would $2,800,000. Plus the athletic fees and other fees they charge. My daughter graduated in 2017. She was on the Millenium Scholarship (tuition, room and board (only covered Gardner and Hamill) so I put her in Trojan Village and paid the difference. Even with the scholarship the dorm difference, books, lab fees and other fees still cost me around $3,000 a semester out of pocket. Not complaining as I got off cheap (on her) but college is drastically over priced and needs to be shortened to either 2 years (drop the GS crap) or 4 years and allow for undergrad and grad degree in that time.

Trade/Technical schools are better bang for the buck for many prospects. Our Granddaughter is graduating HS this Spring, opting for 2-Year Tech degree in medical field. Guaranteed employment, starting at 45k for qualified students. Tried to call a plumber, electrician or AC tech lately?? IF you can find one in a reasonable time frame, they approach $100/hour. Poli-Sci Bach degrees are flipping burgers or going Ma$ter$ route.
