In my opinion, the two main reason we been so successful over the past several seasons: 1. Coach Konnening. Our defense have saved/bailed us out of many games. 2. Coach Horton. Our players under his Leadership looked like SEC/ACC Players and we were able to match up to anyone strength wise.
These two position coaches need to be great hire for us to move forward.

The D has bailed us out the past 3 seasons to the point you could take the three 10 win seasons and go ahead and make them 6 win seasons without them. See La Monroe 2018.

I get the whole defense has bailed us out thought. Football, however, is a team sport and IF you take the offense out of the equation, we'd have 3 winless or, maybe 2 winless and one 1-11 season. Defense is important, and it's going to be a monumental task to replace what we lost is the way of defensive coaching, let's not act like that's all that made up the TROJAN teams for the last 4 years.

One thing that set Neal Brown apart from most coaches is he's acutely aware of the talent level, depth, health and many other aspects of his roster. He knew this team had a long, tough stretch to end the season (including ending the year for the third consecutive time on the road), which is why when he built big leads, he seemed to coast on them. His defense allowed him to do that and try to save bodies for the stretch run. Brown even admitted after one game that with a good lead, he calls plays like a head coach, not an offensive coordinator. While the defense was utterly amazing the past three years, this team had several nice offensive games.

Neal Brown was an offensive coordinator that turned into a head coach. He also adjusted his offensive game plan to fit the players he had. The quality of his defense dictated his play calling in games. He is a real head coach.

Isn't that the job, after all, of a coach and a QB?

He took what was, at times and for various circumstances, weakened offenses and weakened defenses and found ways to win by doing exactly what Bubba said, managing the game. It's higher altitude vision and not simply just play-by-play, series-by-series. Hemi nails why I will miss CNB so much - he was a real head coach. I think he's going to be a legend in the long run. I truly do.

(The HC we don’t speak of) could wind up being the exact same but only time will tell.
