Was at the game... My heart sank to my feet when UAB made that desperation 3...
I'll take the win... two big wins in a row over WKU and UAB... I really, really, really hope this is a sign of things to come as far as conference play goes...
UAB had a great crowd there considering students are out of school and it's 4 days before Christmas.

First win EVER over the UAB Blazers.... also, down 9 points with over 6 minutes to go (on the road) and made the come back... Back-to-back wins over solid teams (Western KY and UAB) on the road...
Huge game by Jordon Varnado (32 points is a career high), also great game by the other two Seniors (Alex Hicks and BJ Miller).
Here is my assessment with one game to go before conference play (against Ark Pine Bluff at home one week from today):
The Seniors are stepping up BIG. Hicks and Varnado make up arguably the best front court in the Sun Belt. If they are not the best, they are certainly one of the best. BJ Miller is playing very efficiently (few TO's compared to assists, hitting his FTs) and effectively. The Seniors will carry this team very far this year. With that being said...
The difference in this team being a good team versus this team being a great team (and competing for the Sun Belt title) rests in the development of the following players: Javan Johnson, Darian Adams, KJ Simon, Chuck Norman, Zay Williams or Devante Foster, Spencer Rodgers, and Malik Burnett. Javan will be needed to score during conference play. He is still nursing a back injury from the Western KY game but he is a star in the making at wing. He can drive or he can shoot from the outside. We will need him to be healthy and play at a high level. We also need solid minutes from KJ Simon at PG. He's young but loaded with talent. He will need to "grow up" fast and play key minutes (don't turn the ball over, hit FT's, and distribute the ball to the playmakers) to give BJ some time to rest or when B.J. gets in foul trouble. We also need Zay Williams or Devante Foster to give good minutes off the bench to give Hicks and Varnado rest (or if they get in foul trouble). Malik Burnett will be needed to hit big baskets (like last night against UAB he hit two key 3's). He is also probably our best defender on the perimeter (besides BJ Miller). We will need big minutes from him moving forward. Darian Adams, Chuck Norman or Spencer Rodgers are also capable of hitting big shots, and will be needed for sure, but I think Malik is the best two-way player at this point (great defender and can shoot).
Here's to hoping this team becomes not just a good team but a GREAT team as conference play starts soon!
Go Trojans!!!
