While it may not appear he needs too much help, especially on his golf game, Dothan’s Tolver Dozier has provided some assistance to the freshman. “I’ve helped him manage his makeup work, how to talk with professors about it, which is just as important,” he said. That, in essence, summarizes the biggest asset Dozier provides the Trojans – leadership. It is a quality that likely will be on display as the Trojans prepare for the Sun Belt Championship Tournament, being played today through Wednesday in Biloxi, Miss. “He’s a junior. He’s a leader for us,” Trojans head coach Matt Terry said. “He’s great in the classroom, and we hold the classroom in high regard.” Dozier has been in Bettcher’s position before – a freshman playing very well. In the last three tournaments, Bettcher has averaged rounds around 72. Dozier, a Dothan High graduate, carded a career-best 73.41 stroke average in his first year at Troy. That success, plus just the general experience of his time as freshman athlete, allows the junior to assume a leadership role for Troy. But the leadership role also extends to the course – even though Dozier’s stroke average has never been as low as it was in his freshman season. “Stroke average can be a bit misleading. We’ve played some difficult courses this year,” Terry said. “(Dozier) is not as straight of a hitter as he used to be, but that’s because we’ve been working on his length.” ( Full Article)
