I was watching the Commencement speech at Liberty University this morning. During the speech, President Trump released the 2018 Flames schedule. I noticed it said Troy AT Liberty In 2018, and was immediately disgruntled by this. It has now been confirmed by Liberty Football via twitter as being set for October 13, 2018. For those of you who don't know, the current Flames AD is Ian McCaw who is the former AD at Baylor. He left due to the sex scandal there. To know that our Athletics Department made a deal with a man like that is embarrassing to me and I hope the rest of the Trojan Nation as well. I would love to get everyone's thoughts on this.

It's not surprising at all that Liberty University would be the first to step into that situation. That said, I don't know the Baylor situation well enough to know his level of involvement in what was happening. Regardless, I'm not upset about it. This will in no way cast a shadow on our university. The Flames are a decent football team that we should beat, but they are no Savannah State. They beat Appalachian State in 2014, and remember APP beat us something like 52-10 (we were pretty bad in 2014).

It's over a year away. Loads can change by then... we might not even have coach Brown when we play them.

Not our fault if some of the big boys don't wanna play us. I'm pretty sure it is a home and home or will be

Just another road game. Likely replacing one out of conference road game on the schedule.

Don't be surprised to see Liberty as the next Sun Belt Conference member. I'm fine with playing at Liberty. Like a poster previously said, it doesn't cast a shadow on Troy football. I think your worry of Liberty joining the Sun Belt is really a non-issue. The Sun Belt won't expand past 10 football members anytime soon, unless some sort of realignment with CUSA happens... and even then I'm sure the Sun Belt would like the idea of adding some CUSA teams instead of Liberty if that option is available.

In no way should we have to be going to them first, it's laughable.

If we played only teams that didnt have at least one scumbag on staff or on the team, there would be no one for us to play. Let it go Francis, it will be ok.

For us to have to go to a first year FBS Independent team to me is embarrassing. We should have listed some things we wanted out of it, and not just kept our mouth shut and take it. Our AD has very little interest in the best for our athletics, and is only interested in bringing his friends up from Southern Miss which is sad. We need people who truly bleed cardinal and black.

Initiate them into FBS by politely stomping a hole in them

It's pathetic.

All that has happened is we moved the UMass game out and signed a home and home that's very winnable and will count as an FBS win.

Remember, we constantly B**** about Alabama and Auburn being so uppity they will not play us at all or others not wanting to come here. Maybe they look at us like this comment looks at Liberty, not worthy yet of their blessings! When they do it we call them sanctimonious and other descriptive adjectives! Let's just play the schedule, kick their butts and trust the schedule makers who know the why's on what/who we schedule. Maybe we needed an away game in '18 to get a home game later!

We play Alabama State and that's no problem. We played that little team from Texas that best us and no problem. We play UMass and no problem so what makes Liberty so negatively special? It's because we go there first? Seriously? In all the concerns/enjoyment this fan has about coaching, recruiting, strategy, game plans, injuries, where we play is irreverent as long as we have 6 games at home each year and the smaller schools reciprocate. What gripes ME is going to these "big" schools year after year and they never return the favor like LSU, Nebraska, Clemson, Georgia, etc.......but I suspect they think US small and unworthy! ITS NO BIG DEAL

ITS NO BIG DEAL Of all the people that we could've agreed to a home and home with, why choose some start up FBS program? We have so many opportunities to ink a deal with Tulane, and Memphis for example. We need to start contacting some of the more prominent Group of 5, and not lower ourself to a Liberty standard.
