The way I see it is Troy has the better offense then App State. When you look at the defense of both teams they will match up well and Troy should be able to stop the run, making them throw the ball more. With the rust knocked off after last weeks game we should do well with the passing game of App State. With that said my prediction will be we win by 10 points.
Troy Trojans - 24 App State - 14

This is the game of the year. Boss level. If we come out flat like we have been doing, then we lose. I don't think we do that as we have learned our lesson. All college football fans should want to see this game. If I were in charge of ESPN I would have college gameday on campus. Troy wins a close one.

I think this game will showcase the league's best offense vs. the best defense. Should be a barn burner! App's passing game is better than you think, though. Put 9 in the box to stop the run & you will see. The passing game has been improving as the season has progressed. And, the zone blocking scheme is all our backs need to break one. We will settle for 4 yds & a cloud of dust (or rubber pellets) every play.
I also think App has yet to put together an entire 4 quarters; esp. on offense. I think the game against Troy has been circled on everyone's calendar as the conference championship this year.
App's D is as good as advertised. The front 7 are the best I have ever seen as a group of Mountaineers. The DBs are not too shabby either. Freshman DB Duck (that's his name) is something else.
Personally, I think it is a shame that the only TV coverage will be ESPN3. This should be a really good football game.
My prediction: App by 3 in a low scoring affair.
Good luck to Troy this Saturday.

The 2 best SunBelt teams will square off as stated.
TROY's defense and APPST's defense are stellar. I think the front 7 on both units are full of All-Conference players. Both units are deep at each position as well. The secondaries of both units will be a deciding factor with the biggest questions in my mind...which unit steps up and stops the other teams passing attack.
TROY's offense has a very balanced approach running an equal number of run vs pass plays. The emergence of Jordan Chunn has given a charge to the offense as now you have to respect the run every down. His 231 pound bruising style of running is complemented with his ability to catch a pass in space on the check down throws. In comes Josh Anderson at 250 pounds to give him a break...I like TROY versus APPST's D but it will be a true test of our 1 - 2 punch. Brandon Silvers is going to be his typical self with accurate passes and taking what the defense gives. The biggest question is can he control the mistakes that cause turnovers. The line will protect as always...but I do look for Brandon to pull a couple for some moderate gains.
I know APPST is a run team which plays into TROY's strength on D. Again, if we take away the run can the secondary control their passing attack?
My prediction: TROY 34 APPST 27

I wouldn't try Jabir Frye too much outside unless we've purposely (and successfully) drawn them to an interior run or deep pass play. They have a small interior d-line like Southern Miss which bodes well for us. We might be able to wear them down in the fourth. They've never faced an o-line this big with running backs this big, powerful, and fast. Their Achilles' heel is the hurry up spread, so we'll have an advantage there as well. I really do think our offense played right into the very few weaknesses they have.

My prediction. No one will be leaving early. It will not be won until the final seconds tick off. Close the whole game.

We have yet to play a complete game. Our worst effort was a win on the road at South, saturday we were clearly caught in a "look ahead" vs. UMASS and turned that into a 4 TD (could have scored but took a knee) whipping. We finally put it all together this week then somehow keep that energy up for 3 more games (gee whiz).
Trojans - 32 App St - 18

Being a 2:30 kick for no reason at all we might come out flat again. DT has a bad feeling about this one. They have the ability to man handle us to the point the top 25 is the last of our worries.

Whomever wins will have a really good argument for top 25. App's been getting votes as well. If either Troy or App wins out, I feel they'll likely be ranked.

App has two loses already They still have 5 points in the Coach's Poll behind our 6. I'm not saying they'd be ranked just for beating us, just that if either teams wins out that team would have a very good chance of being ranked.

Chunn gets more than 100 - win If we are -2 in the Turnover margin - we lose I think we win this one much like Southern Miss - 37 - 31 Would not be surprised if the score goes the same way for App State - they are a quality program and this guy is very glad they are part of our conference

App has two loses already Yep, you are correct. App lost to Tennessee 13-20 in overtime & to Miami 10-45. Both teams were ranked at the time; Tenn. was #9 & Miami was #23, I think. We should have beaten Tennessee at their house. The Miami game was a weird one. Too much hype; I think the team was so excited, they could not play. Just weird. Miami was first ever top 25 team to visit Boone, record setting crowd, etc. Coach should have told the team before the game: "Take ... a ... deep ... breath ... in ... breath ... out ... Ooooooommmm." I'm not kidding. Needed to relax. But, all that's behind us now. Looking forward to some real football at Troy.

If you're kicker was good over 40yds ( 1 for 6) the Tennessee game would have not made it to OT. While I am Troy all the way, I was pulling for App over the vols. Miami run straight up the gut on your 3 man front. I am interested to see if Chunn can do it also. Miami also shut your Offense down by forcing 3rd and long. Troy has the edge in a close match up. A few mistakes, TO's or a single missed play could mean the difference in this one. Also if MO gets going it could get ugly for either team. Troy"s ability to kick 40yd+ FG's may be the game changer.

Yes, at Tennessee, our freshman kicker missed an extra point and a field goal. Either one of which would have won that game. (Not 1 for 6). He did not miss either by much, and he has hardly missed since. He'll be fine. And, you oversimplify the Miami game. Miami was not running up the middle on our 3 man front. App let the hype of that game carry them away.
Whatever the kinks were at Tennessee and against Miami, all will have been worked out in time for the Troy game. Promises to be a great game. Looking forward to it.

I never stated he was 1 for 6 @ vols, but just he missed the FG that would have won the game at Tennessee.
BTW Go back and review the 3 Miami Rushing TD's and look at what direction the back was traveling. The only reason Yearby may have been outside the tackle was the RT had blocked his man over were to the LT was. I know they did not run on you all day as they were also lighting up the sky.

Not sure how you expected me to interpret it any other way than he was 1 for 6 in the Tennessee game. Just to clear this up. In that you keep using to make the Tennessee game a inclusion limit is not present. The that is used to mark Tennessee game as a proper noun. ( 1 of 6) is used an explanation of "if you're kicker was good over 40yds". pa·ren·the·sis a word, clause, or sentence inserted as an explanation or afterthought into a passage that is grammatically complete without it, in writing usually marked off by curved brackets, dashes, or commas.
Proper Noun has two distinctive features: 1) it will name a specific [usually a one-of-a-kind] item, and 2) it will begin with a capital letter no matter where it occurs in a sentence.
