Mr. Ho like to just point out TMTDM win SunBelt Conference Title in 2010. New Head Coach not so new anymore and it year three of his tenure. All Maestri player long gone. New Coach might recruit good and Pearson and Tornado top notch player but at some point when do we start to win conference games. Maybe we move back to Sartain Hall and play game.....wait.....

Arkansas state will probably finish near last in the conference in basketball. Their coach is on the hot seat and just had a couple players transfer off the team from what I understand.
Hopefully we don't finish last in the conference again.

Hopefully we don't finish last in the conference again. I think it's reasonable to start expecting this team to win these type of games. We have the facilities card covered in spades so three years is fair time to give to recruit your guys. It's much easier to turn a basketball program around than most other major sports. This team looks better on paper than they often do on the floor. They beat USF and play Ol Miss tight through overtime then can't win the games against the smaller OOC teams or weaker Belt teams. That's really disappointing.

Ark St has a couple of pretty good players, but Troy could have put it away had they made their free throws.

Ark St has a couple of pretty good players, but Troy could have put it away had they made their free throws. Free throws seem to be a constant issue for this team and that can be coached and improved upon. Hopefully they are working on that. It's tough seeing teams like UALR and others have better results than we do. Why we can play with better teams and lose to weaker teams is troubling to say the least. We need a dominant big man!

There are some posters on this board that I feel the same way about as you feel about our SAs.

Looks like we have as many coaches on the bench as we do players. Maybe one of those coaches can work on free throws

Clock is ticking...a couple of good players, we need to be winning not meandering around the cellar. Maestri won a Conference title with less talent. And we are a long way from even being middle of the pack.

I'll be honest... I wasn't impressed with the hire of PC from the beginning. Have been hoping to be proved wrong, but just hasn't been the case. We have done a pretty good job at recruiting but hasn't translated to the court.
If we can become a middle of the pack sbc team this year give PC another year... But if we are sitting at the bottom again. We need to cut our losses

We have a $45,000,000 dollar arena and our results are no better than when we played in Slumtain. Our attendance also isn't any better which translates to a product on the court that doesn't excite fans. If our administration stays complacent with these results then what it says is dear leader wanted a $45,000,000 graduation facility, not a winning basketball program.

Some on here are just laughable with their back handed shots at Troy student athletes and coaches.
I'm sure Phil is more frustrated than anyone on here about the poor free throw shooting. Having watched all their home games and several road games I will say this team is much improved in every aspect except free throws. My hope, because I enjoy watching Troy succeed, is that they are able to correct that one glaring weakness and it will lead to many wins in he the very near future.

Well I just figured we would go after someone who had a little more history of success than a assistant at a current SBC school at the time. It wasn't a wow hire by any means. Not so say he couldn't have been successful. He's made a career out of being a assistant besides his stent at a small school in Kentucky that was D2 and isn't even open anymore. (I realize coach brown doesn't have HC expierence either but the guy is very young) Also not sure if true, but it looked like PC wasn't our first choice when all the interviewing and such was done. I could be wrong here but it's how it came off to me.

Hemi, You know I am not one to jump on the fire the coach bandwagon; and I am not on it with regard to Coach Cunningham. My question is when do we go from "win soon" to "win now" ? It seems to me the talent is present to finish in at least the top third of the Sunbelt. The poor start certainly does not help that effort and would have to be considered a significant under achievement for the level of talent on this team.

No one is blaming the players. Buck stops with the coach. He is probably a good assistant coach and decent recruiter but he doesn't seem to be a head coach. There are plenty of successful head coaches at lower levels that would kill to coach at Troy with the facility we have. Some assistants make the jump to HC fine, others don't. If this team does not improve from the first two years then he just isn't a head coach. He is paid to win and improve every year. That's the bottom line

I see so much upside to this team, but the free throws are keeping them from winning. UALR is a very good team and if we make those shots we win the game. Stats even look pretty good expect for free throw percentages from some of the main ball handlers on the team. Frustrating to watch, but hoping it gets corrected more so for the coaches and players, than for my personal benefit.

Free throws are supposed to be easy to make. We are losing games because of poor shooting at the free throw line. We need to get that corrected. I think we'll be fine otherwise but that is one glaring weakness

Totally agree with Hemi. This team definitely has talent and is fun to watch. As for Coach, I can tell you that the folks up here where I live have always thought the world of him, PC is a Kentucky guy whose father was a college basketball coach as well. The folks at Western Kentucky hated to lose him to us (they were still in the Belt at that time so they had multiple reasons to be upset). He basically started from scratch at Troy and has recruited very solid players these past couple of years, they just happen to be young. It was only a few years ago, most everyone on this board was complaining about getting all our players from the JC ranks, lets give these kids time to jell, there is no doubt TROY is moving in the right direction and will be competitive in the Sun Belt real soon.
Go TROY!

Go TROY! Yep, absolutely agree but free throws don't require any growing up or jelling, high school kids can shoot free throws! Just sayin' that problem should be fixable!
