In case you have not seen it, this is probably one of the better feature stories I've written this year, and I've had some good ones.
Troy center Evan McKissack was an incredible interview, and there was no way to get all of his wonderful quotes into one story and make it a coherent, intelligible read. So, I have decided to post a few more of his quotes here for some extra reading.
On starting this season and this season's personal success: "I've been very thankful. Shoot, they took a roll of the dice on me. If I was an outsider, I would have been like, 'Are you kidding me?'
"I've had a good offensive line that has really meshed well as a young group of guys. That makes my job a lot easier. They can paint a picture of the defense."
On perhaps returning full-time for the Texas State game: "(Monday) morning, I did a whole bench workout with 225 pounds on the bar. I've been trying to stick my hands in there a little more. Shoot, last game of the year, last game of your career at Troy University, a place that's given you an opportunity to play. I don't care if I have anything on this hand. I'm coming with it. It could break again, and it wouldn't matter."
On Caleb Carbine, who has started while McKissack recovers from hand surgery: "As I've been out, give props to Caleb Carbine. He's a young guy that has stepped in there and has waited his turn. He walked on here. I love that guy. He graded out at 90 percent against Ole Miss, and I hope he's going to be the one who takes the reigns of this team next year."
On building a strong future for Troy: "That's also part of my job. I want to ensure that those guys are held strong. We have to keep those expectations high, regardless of when my chapter closes or anything like that."
On memories of playing at Troy...(Full Article).
