ARKANSAS STATE: The Red Wolves won their third straight game at Texas State over the weekend, 38-21, thanks in large part to a strong second half. Michael Gordon was the catalyst in the triumph, rushing for a career-high 184 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries. Adam Kennedy (78 yards) and David Oku (55 yards, TD) were also integral pieces of a ground attack that generated 328 yards on the night. Adam Kennedy only threw for 96 yards, but he did so on 14- of-18 passing with a touchdown and an interception. J.D. McKissic (seven receptions, 41 yards, TD) was on the receiving end of Kennedy's scoring strike. ASU (6-4, 4-1 Sun Belt) became bowl eligible with the win and remained in sole possession of second place in the conference standings, one game behind Louisiana. The team plays it final home game of the season this Saturday against Georgia State.
GEORGIA STATE: The Panthers' winless campaign continued against first-place Louisiana, as they dropped a home game, 35-21. LOUISIANA: The Ragin' Cajuns managed to maintain their place atop the Sun Belt Conference standings as they notched a 35-21 road victory over Georgia State on Saturday. Alonzo Harris (79 yards, TD) and Terrance Broadway (78 yards) were also effective in the ground game. Under center, Broadway only completed 10- of-16 passes, but he made the most of those completions with 234 yards and four touchdowns. The team was outgained on the ground by the relentless Midshipmen, 351-120, with Kendall Houston pacing the modest attack with 36 yards on 11 carries. The defense got chewed up on the day, but Enrique Williams (12 tackles, one TFL) still found time to put forth a strong performance. South Alabama (3-6) will need to win each of its last three games to become bowl eligible, starting this Saturday against visiting ULM.
TEXAS STATE: The Bobcats got off to a nice start at Arkansas State, as they held a seven-point lead late in the first half, but they surrendered 24 unanswered points to close out the game on their way to a 38-21 setback. Tyler Jones was solid in defeat, completing 17-of-28 passes for 204 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions, but he couldn't get much going after his second-quarter touchdown pass to Ryan Carden (three receptions, 42 yards) made it 21-14 in the Bobcats' favor. Robert Lowe had a productive game in tallying 86 rushing yards and 43 receiving yards. The defense managed to pick off ASU quarterback Adam Kennedy once, but the unit had no answer for a rushing attack that generated 328 yards.
