Troy punter Will Scott doesn’t want another opportunity to set a school record.
Scott unfurled a 77-yard punt in last weekend’s loss at Ole Miss, which stopped 4 yards shy of tying Troy history. He isn’t looking for another opportunity when the Trojans host Texas State on Nov. 29.
“Hopefully, we don’t have to punt next Friday,” Scott said. “That would be nice.”
Scott’s kick, early in the third quarter, was rugby style and had an extended roll. Kicking from their own 18, the Trojans backed Ole Miss up to the 5.
“I had no idea it was going to roll that far,” Scott said. “I actually started walking to the sidelines to watch, and (the gunners) kept running and running and running, and I said, ‘I guess that worked out pretty well.’
“I knew it went a good ways.”
Scott, who has had three other punts of more than 60 yards, has averaged almost 46 yards per kick with 14-of-26 downed inside the 20.
Anthony in plans: Backup quarterback Deon Anthony should be back after all.
Anthony had ankle surgery early this month and wasn’t expected to return, unless Troy made a bowl game. Now, he’s part of the plan for the regular-season finale Nov. 29 against Texas State.
“We’ll find a way to get some yards running,” coach Larry Blakeney said. “Deon is scheduled to be back. He might help us in that regard.” (Full Article)
