Troy quarterback Corey Robinson became just the fourth quarterback in NCAA history to throw for over 3,000 yards in four seasons, but it was not enough as Ole Miss won it's fourth straight game with a 51-21 victory over Troy on Saturday in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
Robinson finished the game 24-of-36 for 258 yards but saw his streak of 16 straight games with a touchdown pass snapped. His 3,086 passing yards this season puts his name alongside Oklahoma's Landry Jones, Boise State's Kellen Moore and Hawaii's Timmy Chang as the only players to throw for over 3,000 yards in four seasons.
Robinson also passed Texas' Colt McCoy for ninth all-time in NCAA history with 13,344 passing yards.
The teams traded touchdowns early in the first quarter. Bo Wallace hooked up with Laquon Treadwell for a 25-yard score to close out Ole Miss' opening drive. On the first play of the ensuing possession, Robinson threw a 64-yard strike to Chandler Worthy down to the Ole Miss 11-yard line. It was the longest play of the season for the Trojans and set up a Brandon Burks 5-yard touchdown run.
Worthy led all players in the game with seven catches for 133 yards, while Eric Thomas had seven grabs for 76 yards. Dallas Tidwell completed 5-of-6 passes for 68 yards in relief of Robinson at the end of the game.
The Rebels (7-3) scored on their next two possessions to build a 20-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Wallace finished the game 17-of-26 for 272 yards and three touchdowns through the air; he also rushed for a game-high 66 yards and a score. Treadwell caught a pair of touchdown passes and finished the game with four catches for 53 yards.
Ole Miss built its lead out to 44-7 before Jordan Chunn found the end zone for the Trojans (5-6) early in the fourth quarter. Following Terris Lewis' first career interception, Chunn capped a four-play drive with his 12th rushing touchdown of the season. The score tied the true freshman with Shawn Southward for the Troy freshmen rushing touchdown record. Chunn's touchdown tally also leads all freshmen running backs in the NCAA this season.
Tidwell worked the Trojans down the field on their next possession, which included a 50-yard pass to Worthy. Daron White capped the drive with his second career rushing touchdown.
The Trojans will be off next week before wrapping up the regular season with a visit from Texas State on Black Friday, Nov. 29. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
