Who is the best AD candidate out there for TROY?
What about this guy?
Scott Farmer - AD Louisiana-Lafayette
Farmer came to Lafayette after eight years at Troy University (1999-2007) where he worked as Senior Associate Athletic Director. He helped the Trojans make the move to the NCAA Division I-FBS level and the Sun Belt Conference.
At Troy, Farmer oversaw a massive renovation of the athletic facilities, including an $18 million renovation of football’s Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Your thoughts?

For some reason Cajun fans don't like him.... Or the ones I've seen anyway

I think he would be a great choice but would he really leave ULL and his position as AD to come back?

Basically a lateral move. Unless somehow Troy paid him a lot more.

Just some food for thought...
In the fall of 2004, when Troy joined the SBC in football; Troy's AD (Williams) announced his resignation to become the Senior Associate AD at the University of Alabama. One month later, Troy accepted a bid to play in the Silicon Valley Bowl against Northern Illinois, the first Sun Belt team ever to earn an at-large bid to a bowl game. Now the interim AD, Farmer traveled with the Trojans football team and made his first visit to Cajun Field.
Virtually everyone, including Farmer himself, believed he would finally be the head man at TROY, but it didn’t happen.
In the spring of 2005, Steve Dennis, who was involved in the fund-raising department at Auburn University, was the choice to replace Williams. Dennis and Troy football coach Larry Blakeney had both been on Pat Dye’s staff at Auburn back in the ‘80s. Naturally, Farmer was deeply disappointed. Farmer continued to handle a lot of the day to day duties of the athletics department.
Just four months after Dennis took over as the AD at Troy, Nelson Schexnayder resigned as Athletics Director at the University of Louisiana. Farmer decided to apply. He did a phone interview with the search committee and was named one of three finalists. The rest is history.
Current Salary: $150K

Money talks. I like Farmer a lot. Still some ill will?
Also I would add Tom Kleinlein and Terry Mohajir.
Throw $275,000 at either of these guys and see if it sticks. If not hope for another homerun with an SEC understudy.

Also he's been at ULL what 8 years now? Why hasn't another program came and taken him away yet if he's great?
I want someone hungry. Like Hartwell was. I don't care if he only sticks around 3 years, we are a better program for it.

Don't even know who they are or what they make but the AD at Florida Gulf Coast might be worth a look as well As the AD at Coastal Carolina. Both schools have come out of nowhere to athletic prominence. Coastal Carlina played for the FCS football title and made the NCAA in baseball

He is worth a look IMO. I'm Presuming Hartwell won't be on The Trojan Tour. I hope this doesn't curb excitement, but who will field the questions generally reserved for the AD ?

Sandy Atkins - interesting Strictly a guess on my part. They may choose to go in a completely different direction. Those of us attending the kickoff tonight in Troy will be the first to know!

Don't know if the timing is good or bad for hiring a new AD. Jmo but perhaps we need to look at successful AD's from FCS. I just mentioned Coastal Carolina and Florida Gulf Coast. Both have risen to prominence in athletics. Maybe a proven smaller school AD instead of a associate at a bigger school who will want to go back first chance. Going to be tough to keep a AD here I'm afraid

At this point, Pandora 's box has been opened and it can't be closed. Troy has made a conscious decision to move in this direction. Gone are the days of longstanding coaches and administrators. There's only so much the school can do.
We have to champion our own cause. As an alumnus, I'll do what I can...as we all should. UAB should be a wake-up call to us all.

I love that we are D1 but my fear was always that we would not have the resources of the bigger schools. Troy is mainly a school that produces teachers. I know this is changing and as a alumnus of the Sorrell College Of Business I am proud of the changes and the growth there. As you said, The ship is out to sea now. We either as alumni support it or be resigned to mediocrity or worse. I'm hoping for the best

Yea, inquiring minds want to know! I heard a few names but nothing concrete. But do know for sure they asked him for some candidates and he supplied them. It will shake out in due time.
