Troy University senior Will Scott is one of 10 semifinalists for the Ray Guy Award, the Augusta Sports Council announced Friday morning. Scott is the only semifinalist from a non-automatic qualifying conference for the award that is presented annually to the nation's most outstanding punter. The candidates were evaluated on their overall statistics and contribution to the team. Particular emphasis was placed on the punter's average, percentage of total punts inside the 20-yard line and percentage of punts not returned.Scott ranks seventh in the NCAA averaging 45.0 yards per punt. He entered the week ranked fourth with 26.8 percent of his punts downed inside the 10-yard line and seventh with 46.3 percent of his punts downed inside the 20-yard line. The Lucedale, Miss., native would set a single-season Troy school record with his current yards-per-punt average and his 42.8 career average would also establish a new Troy record. Scott is one of three players in the country named to both the Ray Guy Award and the Lou Groza (place kicker) Award watch lists. ( Full Article)
