I still remember sitting in those stands worrying about getting out of their alive, because we were going to beat LSU at home ! Huge choke. That coaching staff should have been tied down and beat with rubber hoses after that debacle. That game is a living tragedy.

It's was my first experience of screaming at my computer. In leaving hiring up to the man paid to do it but Lordy that guy and thst game is tough to overlook.

Just to answer the questions about why Dooley would be a good choice...again, this is my opinion: He is incredibly intelligent. He holds a law degree and actually practiced law before coaching. He has learned from some of the great coaches. His dad, of course, but he also worked with Saban at LSU and Miami Dolphins. He actually led La Tech to a winning season in 2008, which is unheard of! This is after he served as their Athletics Director as well. He's had experience recruiting against the very best and has probably learned more from his mistakes in this regard. He has pro experience at two places, which can't hurt when you are in the living room of young men. I think he would be a great ambassador for our University as well.
Not saying he is the best available, but when we talk about the right "fit," he may just be the guy.

He is probably a great man and a good asst coach but he's had chances as HC and he just doesn't win.

Neal would probably be my first choice as well. And for the record, I think he is the top choice.

Neal is not my top choice (because I don't have a top choice) but he is a choice I would NOT be disappointed if it was Brown.

ONLY IF he signs a contract swearing if he EVER gets a huge lead against a top level opponent in the 4th quarter again he will STOP throwing and start controlling the clock. If he says no, send him packin'! Can't ever get over that game. The dumbest 4th quarter ever coached in my humble opinion!

Some of my best friends from my Troy reunions both class and athletics are here and we don't always agree. No big deal! We just share thoughts, ask questions, prevoke thought and respect each other's response then wait for the REAL problem solvers to do their THANG! That game with LSU almost sent me to the funny farm that day. I was yelling at the computer phrases I can't repeat today but it included "what the h--- are you thinking", etc., etc.!

That game with LSU almost sent me to the funny farm that day. I was yelling at the computer phrases I can't repeat today but it included "what the h--- are you thinking", etc., etc.! I have gone back and looked at the box score for that game (several times over the years) and it is painful to see the 3 and outs in the second half (mostly 4th quarter) that only ran a few seconds off the clock. Beginning after our first possession of the 2nd half where we scored to take a 31-3 lead here are the next six possessions by our Trojans: 3 plays, 7 yards, TOP - 1:38 (This possession began with just over 8 minutes left in the 3rd quarter) 3 plays, 1 yard, TOP - 1:02 4 plays, 9 yards, TOP - 0:56 3 plays, 4 yards, TOP - 0:58 3 plays, 0 yards, TOP - 0:28 4 plays, -4 yards, TOP - 1:10 My friends that is 6 consecutive possessions with 20 plays (15 passes with only 2 completions), 5 runs; 17 total yards (2 yards passing, 15 yards rushing); 3 punts; 1 INT; 2 turnovers on downs; with a total TOP of 6:12. I still have trouble comprehending how we lost that game. If NB is the new coach at TROY, I sure hope he learned his lessons from this game. We didn't milk the clock and forced our defense that was getting worn down to be on the field way, way too much with almost no rest between possessions. I think we could have taken a knee on 3 plays (or run a toss sweep, dive play, or delayed draw), run the play clock down to 1-2 seconds before each snap, then punted on those possessions and been able to win that game based on being able to run about 2:30 off the clock (assuming we didn't get a single first down). I remember leaving that game and driving to my hotel with my family and just saying, "I don't know what just happened. How do you lose a game when you have a 28 point lead midway through the 3rd quarter. It's impossible- the other team doesn't have enough clock left to score that many times." It is still hard to fathom that loss. It bothers me more than any other game. Oh well, back to the rumors on who the next coach will be.

I was at the game. Man it was cold too. I was with my family (wife, 5 year old boy, and 2 year old daughter). We were all bundled up about 4 rows from the top of the stadium and as the players run off the field from pre-game warm-up my 2 year old daughter says, "Is it over? Can we go back to the hotel?" I told her, "Just a few more minutes honey." I didn't have the heart to tell her the game hadn't even started yet.
