I have a question about the atmosphere on and off campus in Troy. I have not been able to get back to Troy in a few years, but I have a couple of friends that are very concerned about the atmosphere of not only the campus, but the city as well. The first thing was the safety on campus. My friend has a daughter that is going to Troy right now and both parents are die hard Troy alums. Go to every home game. He told me after this last game that the campus and its safety have gone down greatly. He said that he would not allow his other daughter to go to Troy if things didn't change. He said it did not look safe for a female to be alone at night. I just cant imagine that on Troy's campus.
The second incident happened at the Mcdonalds in the city. An acquaintance of mine was eating inside the restaurant and their car got shot up right before their eyes. Like I said I haven't been able to get back to Troy the past few years. Has the campus and city really gone down that bad? Where is the security? It used to be a wonderful place to live!

I live in Troy. Moved here a bit more than 2 years ago from the greater Atlanta area. I live precisely 1 mike from the football stadium. My daily run takes me near and through various parts of campus. I see and have seen no obvious areas of concern.
Is crime higher in Troy than in days past? Obviously I can only personally comment on a brief period of time but I'd say that odds are the answer to the question is 'Yes'. Regardless of population size, I rather doubt that there are many places these days where crime overall is not up. I've heard of and am aware of certain crimes in the town but not really anything which concerns me greatly on the actual campus. I'm a neighbor of the campus so what happens there concerns me, I'm just not aware of anything which should concern me.
Not calling your friend out but I can't recall hearing anything at all about that incident at McDonald's.
I read the local paper regularly. I have a mother in law here in town who talks to her old hen friends daily and then relays the "important" stuff to my wife. I attend a Southern Baptist Church and go to Sunday School. So, if something big were to happen, I think I have more than an ample supply of locally sourced information which would let me know if areas of concern.
I got nuthin.

I have a daughter at Troy also and I feel completely safe with her at Troy. Every campus had problems but you can't much safer than Troy. The McDonalds though seems to draw a rough crowd at night, not sure why? Overall I am confident my little girl is safe

Unless Mr. Ho and the Red Wave are in town...
Then nobody is safe.

My son goes to UCF and my one daughter to Troy. Troy is 100 times safer than UCF I can tell you. They have had budget cut backs at Troy and the only thing I don't like is that they don't run the shuttle at night any more. My daughter last spring had a lab till 9 pm two nights a week and had to walk from McCall to Trojan Village at night. I got her pepper spray to carry just in case. alumni hall parking lot at night wasn't ideal to walk by but thank goodness no problems.

Yes, it was Saturday night after the Homecoming Game (10/11). There are idiots everywhere but I have a relative with a daughter at Troy now and they are tremendously pleased with everything. All their family went to other universities in the past but they/she loves Troy.
