Why Tidwell hasn't been given his fair shot at the starting spot this season I do not get...He has a POWERFUL arm. He can make the deep throw and he has great vision. He has been the clear stand out to me from everything i have seen. He is great in the pocket...give him a shot before he finds a better school to play for... Dallas Tidwell pass complete to Chandler Worthy for 50 yards to the Miss 3 for a 1ST down. espn.go.com/ncf/recap?id=333200145

Pruitt did just fine when we let him throw the ball and was moving down field until we pulled him......Imagine that. Its about like running a shotgun play on 4th and 1.

My greatest concern is if/when Tidwell does transfer, those two we have playing now are it. We have no one else. They did not perform to the level of the hype that this forum has given them all preseason. 1 game does not a season make. I think I'll have a beer.

1 game does not a season make. I think I'll have a beer. No but you can tell a lot about a player in one game and how he responds to adversity. if the QB competition was as close as they have made it out all offseason then why not give Tidwell the chance.

Some guys are game players. They don't look spectacular in practice but just perform in games. If the two stink the place up Sat then he deserves his shot.

I agree...I could see how if he got his chance and he didn't produce how he would end up not playing...but the kid has only had a handful of chances and when he has played he has produced consistently...Let the kid show his stuff

Nothing against him but that was against the 3rd string with 1:44 left in the 4th

I guess the biggest question would be since he had the clear cut advantage going into Spring and Fall camp, why didn't he separate himself from Silvers and Pruitt?
I think I'll have a beer.

The two things I heard on him were mobility not good and slow release. Not sure either but evidently #1 and #12 did better.

Nothing against him but that was against the 3rd string with 1:44 left in the 4th Yeah but those 3rd string guys for Ole Miss would start over all of our first string guys. Exactly...these aren't 3rd string guys that play for UAB or South Alabama....those guys could probably start on any team in the Sun Belt. and the way it looked Saturday, UAB's 3rd string guys could compete with our starters..

Not necessarily true. We have a Ole Miss 3rd stringer who didn't beat out our OL starters.

I don't know what happened on Tidwell, I know from hear in Birmingham, he was known to be a great kid playing for a smaller 6A school against the hardest Region and the Birmingham News (which is all I had to go by never saw him play in person) gave him a lot of credit and regarded him high and chose Troy over a couple of other schools. Not saying he should play or not, I will have to trust the coaches on this decision, however don't down play any string he did what I just watched against especially done with what appears to be no nerves against the known best conf in the country. After what I saw Saturday, all of the QB on the roster should have gotten a quarter to play, and maybe a leader formed. I don't know the answer, but on scholarship along with the other one on scholarship for a reason. Unless some of you insiders know something I don't.

YEP! You mean like posting the same thing over and over again? I think I'll have a beer. I am not expecting different results. The same could be said of you so I wouldn't throw that argument at you. I assume you expect different results by speaking up for what you believe are reasons/resolutions. Sorry if I have some how upset you but I am going to say what I think since at the end of the day it is football and we are mostly men here.

Results are all that matter. Continuously posting how this coach needs to be fired isn't going to get a win or a bowl game. It's highly unlikely that a coach will be fired during the season so we are just going to have ride this out. If it turns into 10-2 or 1-11 we are just going to have tailgate, cheer, and be proud to be Trojans. I'm going to continue to pass the word on the need for new facilities, and the need to raise money for Troy Athletics. When I write a check to Troy Athletics, it isn't to Larry Blakeney, Wayne Bolt or any other individual. It's for the people in place now and the ones to come in the future. The big picture is we are the foundation of Troy university in FBS athletics. We have had a lot of ups and a lot of downs in all sports. Those will continue. I think I'll have a beer.

From what I saw in fall camp Silvers and pruit were more consistent. Dallas either shined like a new silver dollar or stunk it up. Silvers was the best QB in the last scrimmage game hands down.
Saturday we were out coached. Plain and simple. Bill Clark and his staff will not be at UAB long. They can motivate and coach mental part of the game. If he had the talent troy had Saturday. If the coached had swapped teams the score would have been 0 UAB to whatever he wanted to score with our guys.
Love Larry but he is washed out. I wish we could have a good season because he has done so much for our school but we may be the first school that the one who built it kills it and the field named after him while he was coaching is removed after he is gone. Because if the team that played Saturday shows up we may win one game. We will be embarrassed in the Belt. You can say what you want about TROY not firing a coach, but hartwell knows this will define his career and legacy at Troy. It also speaks volumes to his future opportunities. If we show many more efforts like this he will make a decision or he will leave because the administration will not let him do his job. My gut on him is he doesn't mind working hard to improve but he isn't going down because someone else can not do their job.
If we have an awful losing season I don't think he will be here and I don't think the school will leave his name on the field.

Rolling a couple of post into one comment here. Absolutely agree with your points. It was beyond idiotic to name the field after a existing coach for this very scenario. It presents a very difficult situation for all involved. Even if he retires or does not get a contract extension, if we have another losing season we have a field that will carry that legacy. Best case is that we somehow turn it around, go to a bowl and he goes into the sunset a winner. But for that to happen it will have to be a 360 degree different team than last week.

I accept that it would have been more appropriate, in my opinion, to wait until he retired and do the naming thingy as a retirement honor, HOWEVER, the naming of the field was/is in recognition for what LB HAS ALREADY DONE for Troy University and, in my opinion, whatever happens from here on out, the name stays!

Rolling a couple of post into one comment here. It's funny you mention that last scrimmage preacher. I was at the last scrimmage and if I remember right, there were a lot of key defensive starters missing from most of the scrimmage. Not missing from injury, missing because it was scripted that way. Many of the key starters played for a few plays but mostly rotated out. They do this type of thing to give a player some confidence and to give the fans some hope. If you remember the scrimmage before that one the offense was terrible. The coaches couldn't have their last scrimmage be as bad offensively as the first one. It's not a bad thing but the problem is you cannot script a real game or ability and that showed on Saturday. Where on earth did you ever come up with that analysis. I assure you, coaches DON'T EVER handle personnel in a scrimmage to "give players confidence and fans some hope"! I really think you are trying to pull someone's chain, right?

I really think you are trying to pull someone's chain, right? Maybe so? It's fun sometimes to see peoples reactions to certain comments. But it is not uncommon for coaches to do that. I've seen and been apart of it first hand on the college level. Not saying that it happened that scrimmage but there were many defensive starters who participated very little and it was not due to injury. In the end, all of this is just speculation. You can breath now. Im not sure they would ever tell anyone to play bad on purpose, BUT i too was at that scrimmage and I also noticed that a lot of defensive starters got less time than normal...maybe to make silvers and pruitt more confident..maybe not

I do not beleive the last scrimmage was designed to build confidence in just the QB's due to the defensive starts were not on the field all the time. They were trying to build depth in each area so by letting them receive more reps they could see where they fell out 2-4 on the depth chart. As you can see things changed after that scrimmage/practice due to players moving up and down on the chart. That may change again before game time with Duke this week.
