No Right, I was saying that they are both in the same situation. Prior to Sumrall, I also believed that a Head Coach had to have playcalling experience. Sumrall changed my thinking on that. You don't think HCJS called D plays on the way up?

There’s two types of candidates you get at Troy, 1- younger coaches on the rise that don’t have a lot of HC experience. Or 2- older coaches with experience on the back end of career.
I would rather hire coaches that are “using” Troy as a stepping stone. Keep the program winning and leave every 2-3 years. These will most likely be younger coaches with limited or no HC experience.

Can I get y’all’s definition of “ready” please. Well according to some here being a RB coach for four years at Auburn with only eight years of coaching experience including two years in D2 and one in HS or eight years at a Big 10 school your father in law was originally the HC at with one year as a intern plus one year as a GA, three years as a analyst and QB coach for three years is all you need to be a FBS HC of a champion G5 school

But Jon had DC and ASST HC assignments prior to the Troy hire and under several different Mentors and programs. I know the family and have followed your boy Dennis for HS, College and recent years. Just needs more experience. And that's all I have to say about that.

Not necessarily off topic but is there a semi official list that’s being considered?

Not necessarily off topic but is there a semi official list that’s being considered? The only official list is in Brent Jones pocket.

#1 for me is Bill Clark - he's a proven winner and would keep things moving steadily. Also a great recruiter. If you can win big at UAB, then you can win big, if not bigger, at Troy. This is a HARD NO...he is 65. The portal will be jammed full by the end of the week if they announce him. Pogue. Ekeridge. Even Steve Dennis. Youth. Excitement. Looking to do big things and move on after two more championships. You're right we don't want to be able to say "Hey team we hired a guy that has won 3 division championships and 2 conference championships in a 6 year span and went bowling in 5 of his 6 FBS seasons and in the one season he finished 6-6 but they didn't get invited to a bowl game because the program was shut down. He has a head coaching record of 60-30 across 7 college seasons." We instead want to say "Hey team we hired a guy that is young and inexperienced but he's energetic and the hope is y'all win for a year and then he bolts and leaves y'all high and dry for more money."

I'm just going to throw this out here and I know this isn't an original idea but should we consider the coaches at places like South Dakota, Montana or North Dakota State?

NDSU coach just accepted a job to be a AHC/S coach at Southern Cal so Entz is off the board regardless. Montana coach went 15-49 as a FBS coach before returning to Montana. SDSU coach has been on SDSU staff most of his career minus a GA year and is a Jackrabbit alum. Probably wouldn't leave for a school in a small random town in Alabama.

Brookings, SD is not much bigger than Troy. Montana coach took the UNLV job which was stupid. They only won this year out of recent memory and that is in a new stadium. We also got our buts handed to us this season by a former Bison HC. I think the SDSU coach is a good one but he might be content to stay. Some coaches aren't driven by the Almighty dollar all the time

We need a guy that wants to come to Troy and stay… Ya'll keep saying this, but I'm telling you we need to make the best hire, period. He doesn't have to be a lifer, and honestly a lifer probably won't give us the results we are looking for. It takes a certain competitive mindset to win championships, and that type of person isn't going to turn down much better opportunities. It's always going to be about ponying up the cash to get the best guy we can, and to keep him for a few extra years before someone with a much bigger bank account writes him a check. With the right amount of money, maybe we keep Sumrall three or four years instead of two. There's only five, maybe ten schools in the entire country that aren't stepping stone jobs, so forget all that.

Not a lifer but someone who will stay more than 2-4 years and try to build something special. Changing coaches every two years is that coach basically using the prior coaches recruits (now granted Portal changes that some) and the team learning new offenses, defenses and terminology. Also unless you keep promoting from within you change the culture of the program also (see Fester). I would love to see a great coach at Troy who would stay 5-10 years and build a dynasty on his recruits and system.

We seldom have this level of activity on the board. Is it hope or anxiety or just angst. The most we probably would get is 4 years if a rebuild needed for one to two years or should I call it a stabilization. Then one to two of good results. Obviously a poor performance followed by another poor gets you stuck on the road to suckdom (see Nebraska). That is where are anxiety comes from but there is just one other obvious place. Winning is better than losing. This is tough conference and with NIL and portal oh boy…thus the angst. Hope is found in an AD who has done and really good job with resources he has at his disposal. Next year even with JS was going to be hard to beat or maintain this years success due to the seniors leaving. PS for the new guy coming in….Gunnar offensive coordinator… he knows the offense and he knows players and people in and around Troy. 26 years at a school makes him a good candidate. He basically is the lifer you are looking for!

Some of y’all are borderline delusional, we are lower middleclass. Doesn’t mean we can’t dominate this neighborhood and have fun doing it. But get real

What's Ed Ogeron doing these days? Counting his money and dating women half his age. So, living his best life.

Promising Arkansas he sold his Harley and that his dating is now restricted to those not half his age. (problem with that is he did not say they might be a third his age). Nothing like a few years to make everyone forget the egg that he threw on their face just a few years ago. So, Ed come on back to coaching there be room at the inn for those who want to coach no matter what you have done!

Maybe ADBJ needs to make a call to Tom Herman. FAU is paying him $700k. Troy can match it or beat it.
