Wiregrass said no. They would rather have the Wallace State Community College band.

If and when we do get a new band director do you think The Sound of the South will get its groove back or can we expect more of the same politically correct nonsense?

If and when we do get a new band director do you think The Sound of the South will get its groove back or can we expect more of the same politically correct nonsense? It isn't the quality of the band director; it's the clout. Johnny Long had the connections, reputation, and clout to keep academic administrative bureaucracy, which is completely the enemy of anything in the extracurricular arts, from hog-tying the program and killing its success. Now, the SOTS is unimportant in the big picture of Troy University academia and they have been relegated to the bottom shelf. And while I'm on the subject of academics now, I'm more cognizant of collegiate ties to China and all things Chinese, though I don't know how wrapped up in China Troy is. I know Dear Leader's wife has a partiality to them. To whatever degree Troy has ties with China, I'm all for that dying and withering on the vine. Without going into details, the reasons should be obvious these days. I'd like to hear what other's take on this is and what knowledge you have of the Troy/China connection. Yes. I am anti-China, no matter what the cost may be.

Hawkins is in bed with China and Vietnam. I also don't like it. We should also not allow Chinese students IMO. I attended during the cold war and I couldn't imagine Soviet exchange students then

We have the worst band in all of college football. I’m fairly confident that the band (students) don’t make the decisions on the what and how (music/arrangements). This a leadership thing, and I would recommend directing your concerns accordingly. When you have talented students who are not being utilized at their full potential, don’t blame them. It’s their leadership, coach, or director.

They donât even hardly even March they just play an instrument on the field. But at the end of the day, the product on the field is not very good kind of like the (The HC we don’t speak of) (The HC we don’t speak of) era in football..

But at the end of the day, the product on the field is not very good kind of like the (The HC we don’t speak of) (The HC we don’t speak of) era in football.. And when they're out playing their instruments on the field, they're "dancing". It looks more like someone who's getting tazed in a police confrontation. It looks stupid. A marching band that dances looks stupid. IT'S STUPID. Did I say it looks stupid? The most I would go is left-foot-out, right-foot-out back in the Dr. Long era. You say "but the kids like it". Ok. Enjoy liking it but the proof is in the pudding - you've lost and alienated a lot of your invested audience who were once passionate about SOTS and now other bands are now the new standard. I grew up in marching band. I became a professional musician because of marching band. I went to Troy because of the SOTS and decided after seeing them in the 8th grade that's where I would go to school. I used to try to go watch Thursday night rehearsal. I used to show up early BECAUSE I wanted to see them in the quad. I used to care about watching the halftime show. I used to show them off to friends at other schools who thought that their school's college band was great. "Yeah, but watch THIS" I would say. I don't do that anymore. I WAY don't do that anymore. It's not that they're bad. They're just average. The direction makes them look silly and not something I can take serious. Pregame. That's the only thing I'll say fits the culture that I know of as the once great SOTS. Don't like that I'm saying this? Get in line behind me. I don't like it either; probably more so than you. It's a heartbreaker. But nobody can't force someone to like a dancing-bear band or new palatable, skin-so-soft changes. Them's the breaks. Welcome to average.

When the prelude to the fanfare changed and Are you from Dixie was nixed, I lost all respect for the SOTS.
