Just read where Orange Beach HS is spending $46,000,000 on new athletic facilities including indoor practice facility. Pretty bad when high schools have an indoor facility and Troy still doesn't. Hopefully they find the money

What the article said. Quite impressive facility in the rendering. Not a pole barn facility

www.obawebsite.com/orange-beach-schools-to-build-state-of-the-art-athletic-complexAccording to this article, it seems like the $46,000,000 is for more than an indoor facility, but it is definitely impressive. It's time for us to not only have an indoor practice facility, but a football only facility. We need a place where the team can spend their time. A place to go watch film, work out, swim, jump in a hot tub or cold tub, play video games, eat, watch a movie, or whatever they want to do. Auburn spent $92 million on their football only facility. I don't think we need to go that crazy, but if we spend even a quarter of that on ours it would set us apart from every other G5 program and several P5 programs. Combining that kind of facility with NIL would be a game changer.

Open those wallets and convince everyone you know to do the same. It's pro football now.

That’s a lot more than an indoor facility and located on a legendary road

Open those wallets and convince everyone you know to do the same. It's pro football now. Trojans played in a $h!#y mess of a ball game last weekend. Beat h#ll out of 'em and was prepared due to NOT having a roof to prepare under. The "recruiting" excuse doesn't hold a lot of water (pun intended) as NIL has much more influence than a pole barn roof. If it's "Pro Football Now" cornhole out of the stadium after 63 years of support.

I like to think not having an indoor practice facility gives Troy a bit of an edge.
While Troy was practicing outside in the rain for the conditions at Army... Alabama decided to go inside their fancy practice facility because it was getting a little to wet for them.

If you’re going to play in the elements, practice in the elements. An indoor facility would allow the team to practice in a lightning storm, but I’m guessing we don’t have enough practices cancelled because of lightning to make it worth the millions an IPF would cost.

The most frequent push back on the topic is recruiting. As in " The Jones' have it so we need it. " Just compensate a top-notch staff and buy the talent.

Jonesy could roll around in his gold coins like Scrooge McDuck, but instead he invests in his university, town and his neighbors. One day, his name should be on a building on campus.

I'll never forget a football camp years ago where a high school QB flew in on his family private jet, my buddy was his pilot, family has millions. They arrived and watched it storm as this one day camp had no other option. Could that family have made a major impact on Troy Athletics, possibly. We will never know because we had no indoor facility. TBB, thanks for the kind words

TBB, thanks for the kind words Of course, when I think I have it figured out that the odds of a significant number of practices being cancelled due to lightning, there's the example of lightning, and its effects on a camp, possibly costing the program big $$$. There are arguments to be made on both sides...invest high 10s of millions in an IPF, trusting that it will attract top quality players AND staff, or invest smaller millions in quality staff and, via NIL, players trusting that doing so will bring in more $$$, leading to the ability to invest in facilities. I won't pretend to know how to best navigate that territory. The ability to properly handle those questions exceeds my skill set and is WAY above my pay grade. In reality, the answer is, we need quality staff, quality players, and quality facilities. How to bring that about, and in what order to do so, is the question.

I think Brent's probably got a plan that involves an IPF. I just hope we end up with something prettier than that terrible green barn off of 65 in Birmingham.

Agreed. And usually anything obstructing one's view of University Avenue is a God send.
