"Require all FBS programs to provide 90% of the total number of allowable scholarships over a two-year rolling period across 16 sports, including football. FBS schools will also be required to fund 210 scholarships each year, amounting to no less than $6 million annually."
Just curious if anyone knows where we stand in relation to this? Says goes into effect in 2027.

I feel we’ll need to add some sports probably. Counting baseball, softball, the two basketballs, football, volleyball and the two golf teams gets us a little over 150, I think. I’m not sure how many track and field and soccer scholarships are offered, and I only have a rough idea on volleyball and golf.

Time to add swimming and diving and beach volleyball. The sun belt sponsors those already.

Says goes into effect in 2027. I am THOROUGHLY CONFUSED, I thought FBS stood for Football Bowl Subdivision, or, in other words, the defining of the old D-1 and D-1AA (FCS) FOOTBALL (ONLY) designations. It seems we have used the FBS/FCS as an "umbrella" connotation to group all colleges into a particular basket. For example, where does Gonzaga fall? They are neither FBS or FCS, they simply don't play football, are they going to required to add programs? What about schools like Mercer? They play FCS football, but play D-1 (FBS?) in all other sports? I THINK what you will see is that programs like baseball (I believe there are 13 scholarships available) where players get 1/2 scholarships (either room and board or books and tuition) and rely on academic scholarships and financial aid, receive more/larger scholarship dollars/benefits. Maybe there is an opportunity to make these 'partial' scholarships into full scholarships, to help with the numbers. Don't believe there is a need to add sports, due to costs associated, and just add #s to existing non-revenue generating sports. BTW, what about the Bass Team and Rugby (club) team? Thoughts?

The soccer program most likely helps the overall Trojan Athletics Student-Athlete program meet the NCAA Title 9 rqmnts per NCAA: For participation requirements, institutions officials must meet one of the following three tests. An institution may: 1) Provide participation opportunities for women and men that are substantially proportionate to their respective rates of enrollment of full-time undergraduate students; 2) Demonstrate a history and continuing practice of program expansion for the underrepresented sex; 3) Fully and effectively accommodate the interests and abilities of the underrepresented sex;

Fun Fact: Troy used to have a Rodeo team. It was all or mostly women though. My father once told me to never get involved with a woman who loves horses. They are expensive and you can’t compete.

Well, we already have the infrastructure for a men's soccer team. The cost to build a beach volleyball facility is cheap compared to building a swim facility. I would assume lacrosse is also an option?
I'm surprised pickleball hasn't become a college sport yet..

Our family were volunteers for Troy Rodeo back in the day, cooking, chaperoning and providing travel items.. fundraisers etc. Correct, Cowgirls > Cowboys about 60/40. (great odds for a Cowboy!) Program folded under John Hartwell, who explained to our crowd the # students benefitting for Troy U annual expenses (Just< $1,000,000 ) just could not justify the team going forward. You are correct. Ms cornhole was a Horsey gal back in the day. Those steeds ate $1,000 bills and crapped manure.

It would likely take time to make the program competitive, but I think lacrosse would fly at Troy. I mean, you’re gonna combine soccer and hockey on grass with a rock hard ball and sticks that you actually swing, head high. How could it possibly fail?

Pickle ball is the fastest growing sport in America. Tons of young people are playing it ! It is coming and Troy needs to embrace it ! I think it would be a very inexpensive sport for the Univerdity to get behind!
