Wide receiver and kick returner Josh Magee, expected to be a factor at both positions for South Alabama this season, has left the program, according to Jaguars' head coach Joey Jones. Jones said Wednesday Magee, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound transfer from Alabama who had to sit out last season but would have had three seasons of eligibility remaining, asked for his release from his national letter of intent for personal reasons. Jones said that request was granted. "Josh had some family issues and really needed to get back to Birmingham and we respect that,'' Jones said. Jones added that Magee will look to play elsewhere, probably closer to his home in Hoover. Magee was a walk-on at Alabama out of high school and sat out the Crimson Tide's 2012 season, one in which Alabama won the national championship, as a redshirt. He transferred to South Alabama after that and had to sit out last season because of the NCAA's rule on transferring from one Football Bowl Subdivision program to another. He enjoyed a good spring and was listed as a backup at one of the wide receiver spots heading into fall practice, which begins next Wednesday. He was also expected to be used a kick returner this season. ( Full Article)
