Ok, I need to lay my cards on the table, sans man card I guess, but I honestly have never been to a tailgate I wasn't in on putting on and never at a game or publicly accessible. In my life on game day I've had activities that kept me from tailgating so it's not something I've done AT the stadium. I honestly have no clue what, if any, etiquette there is to traveling to Troy from a distance and "crashing" in on someone's tailgate - or if that's customarily even a thing. I'd gladly expect to bring something or contribute in some way. And I don't mean getting a plate but everyone later saying "who was the dude who dropped in on the food" like I crashed a wedding reception without knowing anyone. LOL Does that make sense? I mean, I always see more food than people walking through Tailgate Terrace, but I don't want to assume or act like I know what I'm doing when really I have little clue. I'm glad to bring whatever or toss some cash in the pot but chicken or BBQ might not be so great making the 2.5 hr drive up - though I do love to grill and honestly, am quite good at it. So as silly as it sounds, tell me what I need to know about wandering into someone's tailgate - even with an invite. Tell me the unspoken rules I'm supposed to know growing up in the south because I need them spoken.

this was the longest way possible of saying "would someone mind if I joined their tailgate this weekend?"

One of the best things about our alumni association is the pregame meals at every single game. It pays for itself, sign up for that membership and enjoy. Then you can mingle and hit up all the others just to say hi.

Literally new people come by every week and are welcome. Food and drink. Everyone on here will tell you the same. All of Troy’s tailgaters are welcoming, never heard a bad word ever. Just walk on in, no lie.

this was the longest way possible of saying "would someone mind if I joined their tailgate this weekend?" Nope. Not at all. I like supporting the food trucks financially and will be eating from there and have every game last season and this season with no intention of changing per se. I would just like to know for future reference' sake if I decide to stop by a tailgate because I've always wondered and the other thread's tailgating talk made me think of it.

Anyone is welcome at our tailgate. I’ve made multiple friends off this board and from meeting new people at the tailgates. We have a great mix of people and you just never know who might show up. We have a tip jar but it’s not monitored and no one cares who gives or doesn’t give. Some of the newbies become regulars and they bring food or whatever. It’s a really laid back atmosphere at our tailgate. Feel free to come by and stay a while. My first time at our tailgate was from an invite off of the old message board.

We are right next to Hemi. Located behind the alumni house. Just look for Flat T-Roy! We’ll be there about 9. Team builder is at 1:45.

Can confirm this is a very welcoming tailgate! Life commitments have kept us from being able to hit it up the last couple of years, but we know we're always welcome.

I may be wrong, and if so, I'm open to correction. I think for a fan who is not a formal part of a group that has a tent on Tailgate Terrace, the best option is a tailgate on the perimeter....along University at tailgates on the lawns of university buildings or along Wallace at any of the numerous tailgates at Campus Student Ministries, those on the lawns of the side streets, or those in the vicinity of the previously mentioned Alumni House. I say this because almost all of the tents on the terrace are corporate tailgates or tailgates for groups such as individual alumni chapters or Troy Cheer, Troy Basketball Ball etc. I'm sure you would be welcome to stop by any of those and chat, I don't think you'd be run off, but I think you would likely be more welcomed as a "part of the group" somewhere other than Tailgate Terrace.
On a side note, as someone who remembers RVs parking on what is now Tailgate Terrace and cars parking, for free, where the new student activity building is located, I am thrilled to see how tailgating has exploded over the past 10 years or so. One of the best examples of this occurs on the lawn between the east end of the activity building and Wallace drive. It is a relatively large area of open grass and over the past 2 seasons, I've seen more and more tents pop up on that spot. When you come onto campus now, it looks like you have come to a big time college football game and big time college football game atmosphere...probably be cause you have.
