STATESBORO — Georgia Southern University and Coca-Cola have connections in the Sherman household. John Sherman, the senior vice president and chief commercial officer at the Coca-Cola Company, often made the drive from Birmingham, Ala., to Statesboro to see his son Jack, a defensive lineman, play with the Eagles football team during the early 2000s. On Thursday, John Sherman surfaced again in Statesboro — this time to help announce a partnership between Coke and Georgia Southern at the Eugene M. Bishop Alumni Center. Georgia Southern officials initially declined to reveal the value of the arrangement. But following a freedom of information request from the Savannah Morning News, the school revealed it has a 10-year, $6 million deal that gives Coca-Cola exclusive beverage rights on campus.
