There are many podcasts and threads with these themes. I have found much of this interesting. The snobs on West Coast basically shot themselves in the foot for a long time but Covid 2020 just began to mail down the lack of interest compared to other parts of the country as to college football. USC and her little red headed step sister UCLA thought they would be the first on a life boat and make a bunch of money and dominate the other rubes in their conference. Meanwhile a long maligned conference whose greatest strength was geography was cast into losing their two flagships in Oklahoma and Texas. Things looked bleak but lo and behold the geography and a good conference leader combined with Bret Yormark just plain out maneuvering the Western snobs has put them in an enviable position. The two big boys SEC and Big10 could not stack everyone and keep some interest. ACC can’t play due to poor past decisions and not having solid unity. So, The Big 12 hardened by everyone trying to kill then off…. Enter Yormark and his savvy and PAC 12 arrogance and ACC handcuffs and SEC and Big10 limits to greed reach the BIg12 stands to be a number 3 solid and stable even with the additions who were the best and most capable to add eventually to the conference.
Meanwhile AAC will continue to use Locum tenums to fill their conference (maybe) then the SBC just keeps producing good product. We may not be. P5 but we have good product with engaged members that seem to care. All of that bodes well for us over the next 10 years. We have a lot in common with the BIg12. Maligned and attacked and preyed upon. All of the sudden we are in a good geographical location with good hardened mates. The BIg12 will be a long time coming to try to shut the door to all access to the top because they have spent years in that spot themselves and they know the two giants are willing to try to kill them off as well. Therefore, at least for a few years our ally in the big boys is much more the BIg12 than that SEC crew we share domain with in the South. The Big 10 is just as upish as the PAC 12 they are just not as stupid.
P5 nope but top dog with a relative strong ally who is weary of the giants too is not a bad place to be. The AAC and CODa are not equipped to do it and the MAC gave up long ago.
Here is to a great year with us beating K-State and South beating Okie State and meeting on a Thursday nite both at 8-0. That is how you get 2 mill or more to watch SBC on a Thursday nite and move to a spot that is even better positioned for the alignment battles to come..

These other conferences may have bigger schools but The SunBelt plays the best football when you consider there are several good teams. Other conferences have a predictable champion. If I watch games other than TMTDM, it’s generally SBC.

When give the opportunity to play these P5 teams new and old the SBC needs to beat them. I think as a conference we've seen it done. Evry time we play these teams beat them consistently to where it's not considered an upset, in every sport. 58 days until September 2nd
