Nice thing about being ranked this late in the year is getting coverage for next year. Nice to see some three stars back on the list of incoming players.
From ESPN: 24. Troy Trojans
2022 record: 11-2
Key player losses: QB Jarret Doege, RB DK Billingsley, WR RaJae' Johnson, LB Carlton Martial, S Craig Slocum, Jr, S T.J. Harris
Key 2023 recruits: CB Jack Tchienchou (three stars), OG Adrian Griffin (three stars), QB J.D. Sherrod (three stars), OG Tyler Bell (three stars)
Can Troy replace depth on the defensive line?
Troy, newly minted Sun Belt champions, will be coming off the fourth double-digit winning season in its history and first since 2018. Junior Gunnar Watson and Doege both saw time under center this season and Watson (2,705 passing yards, 13 TDs, 10 interceptions) should be back to take full control of the offense. Troy averaged 121.6 yards on the ground, placing it ninth in the Sun Belt. Sophomore Kimani Vidal (1,059 rushing yards, nine TDs) is their most experienced running back returning as they'll try to infuse a little more life into their rushing attack. The Trojans' defense was quite stingy (17.5 PPG). Two of their top three tackles were safeties and will be lost to graduation. Can Jon Sumrall find a way to stabilize the back end? Its fortunes of a repeat of 2022's success could depend on it.

Watson may be a player loss. He graduates before next season and I have heard he may want to begin his life after University.

I will be shocked if Gunnar doesn't come back. I feel like he's just now coming into his own. He will have so many years to live his "life after University". You can't change her mind at 36 and decide you'll start on Saturday against Texas State. I tried. Troy PD insisted I could not.

Coach Sumrall was on Barry's show this morning. He was out recruiting today, said his day started at 4:45 this morning and it will end around midnight. This staff is working non stop to close deals in the next few weeks and he specifically mentioned when he took the job, he knew the talent was good for 2022 but would have to recruit well to keep the 2023 team at that level.

Anyway, he shared with me that Gunnar has taken some damage from his years as qb. So it’s not just wanting to move on. Gunnar is evaluating and preparing for his life like he would as our QB1. No matter what he decides, he has accomplished something very special that not all Troy QB1 do.

Incredibly engaging with nearly everyone. Moving him out of group that is talking may well be his wife's greatest challenge. I do not say this in any way as a cut on him. I have found him to be pleasant and engaging with just everyone.

He and I met at the "yard sale" at T Day and everytime we see each other we are gonna have a 10 min conversation. He was emotional and over the moon Saturday night before the MVP was even announced. I did not see him after that but I can only imagine how happy he was.

If Gunnar leaves, then Peter Costelli has a big opportunity in front of him.

If Gunnar leaves, then Peter Costelli has a big opportunity in front of him. or a portal pickup QB1 will definitely be interesting next year. The offense and QB play will have to be better next year if we want to repeat as Champions. TMTDM was an elite unit this year with a lot of upperclassmen leadership and players. Just can’t expect to be that elite again. I hope it is but chance it doesn’t maintain that elite status. It will be good, DC is dialed in. With the TMTDM literally winning games for us this year, we will need the offense to have some semblance of average consistency and ability Not these one off, every now again decent to good performances. QB1 for 2023. Everything else looks to be in place (OC needs to get better)

Saint will be at the bowl game apparently. That's dedication. This is a busy season for him what with needing to remove all the toys and decorations from Whooville before Christmas arrives lest his heart grow 3 sizes.

Tke, that made me laugh. Kudos. This year has been good to the Saint. Christmas will be good for friends and family, good gifts, for sure. But I will spend way more on charity, especially the local food banks. We also are involved in a local group, mainly business and group friends where we give away as many turkeys as we can to local families. We include sides, drinks and dessert. It’s a whole Christmas meal. Everyone deserves to eat. We give hundreds of meals now and growing. Encourage everyone give to your local food banks and soup kitchens. Everyone deserves a warm meal !

In sports, businesses or life, if you sit on your laurels and don’t change, adapt and improve, you get passed up, lose and fail.

The best quote I ever heard about Troy was something my dad said a coach said: It may have been Chan Gailey who said: At Troy, we're small but we're ugly.

Literally everyone on here can buy a case a green beans and donate them to help. It is that’s say to start. LOL, if I am the villain on here, we have real problems. I don’t think my truth darts are any less reasonable than the next guys version of truth. I just got too much Trojan in me, I guess. Thanks TKE
