Sign players that are hungry. Sign players that have a heart to serve their teammates and not themselves. No way any coach can manage 18 to 22 year olds with a lot of money in their pocket.
Maybe coaches will figure it out - how to manage NIL. It was one thing when players got paid under the table but when it's so public it's hard not to resent if your the guy busting your butt just the same as the NIL guy and not getting paid
It will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Players that play at Troy will love to get the opportunity to pancake and NIL dude, run over and NIL dude, sack an NIL dude and I can't wait to watch it happen

We don’t. College football is now professional football and it is going to dwarf the NFL. There will be professional teams where players get big money and then there will be classic college football where student athletes play. It may take a few years to settle down, but it will get there. So what, now what? Troy will be a classic college football team with student athletes. We can’t afford to compete in a professional league with big oil and big tech money.
To give you an idea of what it will look like, think about The Ivy League and the HBC league.
Don’t fret, this may lead to pure collegiate athletics.

I can't see us competing directly with $5M in NIL funds. I think the only way we can compete in this environment is by doing what we've always done - find the good player that isn't interested in the "high life" as much as he is interested in finding a place that feels like home, a place where the people feel like family. Not only do we have to recruit them into the program, we have to recruit them to stay once they arrive. I think we all would agree that HCJS did a tremendous job of doing that when he arrived. That said, It won't be easy, we will, at some point, lose not only a back up who gets limited playing time, but a really good player that is contributing on a regular basis. The goal has to be to minimize those occurrences while at the same time bringing in those type of players who are in the portal with other schools. I'm glad I'm not responsible for pulling this off.

As someone who participates in and loves NIL, there needs to be a cap enforced by the NCAA. If we are a professional sport now, we need the same rules that professional sports have. Set a limit and even out the field a bit. I’m still 100% on taking care of the players but it can be done in a cleaner way than it is now. On a G5 level out total package of opportunities is as good or better than anyone else at our level. We need more money though, as does everyone else.

You compete against those who you can compete against. You get creative against those who have a distinct advantage.
The Study Abroad program just announced for our Student-Athletes is being pretty dang creative and can be a recruiting advantage. Seriously, this is a great program in general.

I get what you are saying Jonesy, but I’m hearing that college players are being advised not to unionize. The salary cap in sports is only viable due to a union agreement. If there were no union and a cap is in place, the antitrust lawsuits would clog the courts. It’s a mess man.
