troytrojans.com/news/2022/10/26/troy-athletics-announces-military-appreciation-details-for-football-vs-army.aspxTROY, Ala. – Troy Football returns to The Vet on Saturday, Nov. 12, for a pivotal home game against Army West Point. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. between the Trojans and Black Knights and will mark the first meeting between the two programs. This game will serve as Troy University's annual Military Appreciation Game as we honor the men and women of our nation's military. Highlights for the game include a pregame flyover featuring four helicopters from Fort Rucker. The flyover will occur in conjunction with the National Anthem performed by the Sound of the South. Additionally, an American Flag that stretches the length of the football field will be on display during the National Anthem. Cadets from Officer Training School at Maxwell Air Force Base will assist with handling the giant American Flag for this presentation. Troy Athletics Communications

Get the flyover to drop the game ball or something.

Get the flyover to drop the game ball or something. I've said for years we should have a Ranger rappel out of a Blockhawk, game ball in hand, for the Military Appreciation Game.

Like how we lost a chopper when we were deleting bin laden. I'm not a rotary wing engineer, pilot, or passenger. (I've never flown in a helicopter). Would the "bowl" structure of the stadium adversely effect the lift of a helicopter, or adversely effect it's flyability in some other way?

Like you, I’m not an expert in this area, but it could as proven by the courtyard walls of the bin laden compound. Is The Vet as an extreme case? No, but it may be enough.

From the web
The FAA has a regulation that prohibits flights below 3,000 feet near large sporting events. The Stadium Temporary Flight Restriction lasts from an hour before the game to an hour after it concludes. Airspace waivers are issued for aircraft involved in broadcast coverage.[1]

I don't doubt you at all, but I was at the top of Sanford Stadium in Athens GA in '07 (when TROY scared the puddin' out of UGA and Matthew Stafford) and I swear, I could have peppered the bottom of the jet flying over with 12 GA bird shot. It was low enough that there was a very distinctive smell of spent jet fuel after it was gone. It sure seemed that fighter was considerably lower than 3000'. Another tidbit about that weekend that has nothing to do with planes or flying, but that trip to Athens was on of my top 5 TROY football trips so far (not games, but trips). The UGA campus and that part of GA is lovely.

I ROASTED at that UGA/Troy game. I am from GA originally and UGA is in my DNA. Grew up a fan and still am but of course, Troy first. I was coming into the stadium when the flyover happened and it completely scared the pee out of me because I was totally not expecting it.
