Nice post on Gunnar! Two things here 1. I had no idea about what Gunnar told coach during the game before posting. That shows a lot of humility and team first mentality. 2. I don’t think Gunnar sucks. I am simply saying based on my observation Doege runs the offense better and looks a little more crisp on his throws. We are facing a very good south team and we need to come out firing on all cylinders. If we don’t…we lose. I appreciate everything Gunnar has done and is still doing. I am just simply stating that I think Doege gives us the best chance next week. But hey, we are fortunate to have both those guys and it’s nice to have a QB debate for the first time in a while. point is - I was at the ole miss game and people were screaming Costelli and Doege after the first series and have been ever since- nobody at that point had anynreason to ask for another QB because neither had been here long enough for any of us to know anything including the coaches of how.they would perdorm - if you look at gunnars stats - they are perry darn good - yet our fan base can't stand the kid and has been against him always

West Mobile Community College isn't going to let us off the hook when Gunnar turns it over on the first drive. Or blows it in the red zone. or when doege throws a pick in the red zone- like against Southern Miss Gunnar should transfer - he threw a TD yesterday and Doege threw 1 TD The difference was 3rd down conversions where Doege out performed Gunnar Gunnar ain't that bad but in this fan bases mind - he sucks so please start Doege next week Coach - he's been here 11 weeks after transferring from West Virginia for a summer internship at Western Kentucky where he expected to get a permanent job but it did not work out for him - so he left the team and landed in Troy - where the starter stuck out it out with (The HC we don’t speak of) (The HC we don’t speak of) and his teammates to play for a winner like Coach Sumrall Gunnars loss is to a Top 10 team who if they win out and lose the SEC Championship will be in the college football playoff If only Gunnar could have batted that pass down at App - but he does not play defense - we have 1 loss. So for the kid who has remained loyal to his Troy family - I say thank you for sticking it out when losing and for continuing to grind and fight when winning all while showing leadership to give Doege the ball today because he had the hot hand That's the kind of character I want to see in this program The people saying Gunner sucks are reactionary and stupid. He's actually pretty damn good for a guy with 3 years of sucktastic coaching and a questionable OL in front of him. I don't think anyone is questioning his character. This also isn't really about his character. It comes down to who can handle the offensive deficiencies better. Both QBs are pretty close in that. Personally, I think Doege has the edge in dealing with our problems. It's not a personal slight on Gunner. Doege just brings a hair more experience and probably better coaching into the mix.

That is nothing unique about Troy. Trojan95, I believe you are not implying this but using your post to reply to so many that believe what I am countering below: Sorry, if Troy wants to be big time and win championships, this program has to change the mindset of playing the best available player that puts us in the best opportunity to WIN. Loyalty wins nothing to who should start. Nothing. Now, if someone makes the case that Watson is better based on his performance, ability, leadership and mindset then go for it. But saying he should start based on his loyalty will not make this program a winner. Yes, give it up to Watson for saying Doege should stay in because he believed Doege could win it for us. But, have to question his mindset after this game. On the flip side, it indicates he has lost confidence, a belief he cannot lead the team to victory. Dangerous place to be in, for the whole team, as the QB defacto leader of the team.

Parts of this thread feels like Jeremy Rowell 2.0. Funny you say this. I was thinking the same thing. I’m a big Rowell guy and consider him a really good friend. Dude loves Troy!! We played in a golf tournament together when Troy was playing Bama in baseball and chest bumping when we eliminated them. He’s a Trojan through and through! But the fact is as a program you put the right people in position that gives you the best chance to win. Period.

Most of us are kind of saying the same thing. There are always going to be issues with some as to what makes them tick. Could be described as antagonistic or mood disorder just not sure.

I played ball for TROY and started for 4 years. I am NOT stupid, nor am I reactionary. I donât appreciate being called such. Good kid - high character, loyal, gives it his best, and is team first - all great traits. Not a great quarterback; and I personally donât believe he the better of the two. Heâs not improved in the slow decisions in 3 years. I believe the other guy moves the offense better. Thatâs not reactionary; nor is is stupid. Itâs my perception. Please donât demean those that disagree. Not very cool to do that. We can disagree without being disagreeable. Go TROJANS

DT is a fan of starting Watson but giving them both a shot each game. Should Doege's shot have come far sooner than it did Saturday considering Watson's struggles? YEP!
But, I don't think we need to up and name a new starter off the the data we have right now. The data is starting to trend in Doege's direction but naming a new starter each time one has a rough game is for message boards not the battle surface of a football field.

The reason Doege was probably brought in was HCJS new we could win NOW and Doege could get that done. Any of us who have watched plenty of football have seen QB situations where one of them just lights a fire in the guys and Doege does that with us. He needs to play NOW! Doege > best odds of winning NOW. We have ONE year to utilize this experience and talent to full advantage. Gunnar > best odds of winning his Sr year.

No matter how this situation plays out, we are in a much better situation than many schools. Guess this is sort of a nice dilemma to have. I personally will be able to tell you exactly what we should do given what the outcome becomes. Kind of like seeing what the lottery numbers are the day after the drawing. There is one guy that will make this call and it (in my best english) ain't any of us. Kind of glad it is not me in this situation.

I don't understand why things have to be made so personal. Maybe people are related to players in question? Nothing should be personal whether it be here in this message board or on the field. We should be putting our best product on the field and keep the sensitivity in our back pocket. When it comes down to it, I trust the coaches and trust that they want the best product on the field as well.

Before my Father died, he went to every football practice. He was always talking about this kid Brandon Silvers. I didn’t see it but my dad did. When Brandon Silvers scored the first touchdown against LSU, I began laughing really hard because I could hear the I told you so from Heaven. My point is, if you aren’t at practice, you just don’t see it clearly.

Remember a time when "Coaches" had a certain QB third string until injuries forced him into starting and what happened was magical to watch. Some players just do better in a game than others. When you find the one that is both is when championships happen

I think Doege starts, but it has nothing to do with message board demands.
