If you read through most of the threads on this page, there are references to XHCCL all over the place (I'm guilty of it). I get the frustration, but it's over, he's been gone for nearly a year. If you listened to the Group of Five Guys podcast this week, they discussed their visit to Troy last week. First thing one of them said, "man they hate (The HC we don’t speak of) (The HC we don’t speak of)", they heard all about him on their visit last week, it's a little embarassing that we are being successful right now, but we have to discuss the misery of the past. LET IT GO! Quit looking in the rearview mirror and look through the windshield, it's time to move on. Your new girlfriend does not want to hear about your ex all the time.

The warm fire of this take is just what this chilly weather called for. Many thanks.

I heard the podcast. There are two sides to a story and we only got one. We don’t know who brought up Fester. For example, I don’t bring him up in conversation, but if someone asks, I will unload. He will be gone from the conversation soon. When HCJS brings us title shots and bowl wins, we will have plenty to talk about.

Hating the other guy and the situation he put the program in and loving Neal Brown and Sumrall and the state of the program now are NOT mutually exclusive. It's possible to do both. It could be argued that appreciating one causes the hate of the other. Knowing what Troy is and what it's capable of, and knowing where the other guy put us is a good reason to be angry.

Humor makes life better. Laughing at our past mistakes can be part of healing. With that in mind we all realize that he was a poor choice. Part of reminding those who watch this board from the sidelines is not to point them to the mistake. But to remind that a mistake is when you do not have information to avoid a choice that you make and retrospectively was the wrong choice. So, my posts, in regard to (The HC we don’t speak of), are to encourage the leadership to evaluate their evaluations. Plus have fun at the expense of a man who had little to no respect by his team or fans by his own doing. His life was a mess and I hope for him and his children that a repentance is taken to heart.
Some may say that a fan board makes no difference but in regard to Troy a great deal of support is represented on this board. Mistakes are unavoidable (barring hindsight). Whereas ignorance in this case was a purposed choice.
So, part healing and part reminder. By year two I will ease up. However, listening to Sumrall for two minutes makes the choice of (The HC we don’t speak of) all the clearer it was purposeful and intended born of who knows what?
I guess I should let it go and just be happy that those days are over. So, from now on any reference to bedpans or stupid head scratching or Festus are simply coincidental and happenstance.

I almost always leave bad feelings behind when new things come into focus. Just who I am. I have some really fond feelings about previous coaches that weren't so hot. The people factor was always a thing because you spend so much of your time invested with them. However, I never had any true feelings when it came to (The HC we don’t speak of) (The HC we don’t speak of). At least nothing good, anyway. Watching him always felt flat. I just never connected with the dude.
Outside of tearing down the wall our football program built, a few things stuck in my craw late in his career at Troy: He made a statement on Georgia Southern radio at media days when asked what they did to improve the defense, he said smugly: "Nothing, we just got better players!". This bothered me because it was clear with his "nothing" that he wasn't spending much energy outside of the portal and the JUCO ranks to improve anything. No development, just hoping to get some "ready mades" to come in and do the work for him.
He was previously the OC at Kansas for less than a month before taking the Troy job. No loyalty. He was fired from Troy and became the OC at FAU. Weeks later, he becomes the OC at UCF. His word meant nothing. Watching what Jon Sumrall has done has reignited some of my dislike for (The HC we don’t speak of) (The HC we don’t speak of). It's obvious it was never a talent problem, and the right coach could have won conference titles when (The HC we don’t speak of) was winning five games every season. Many of are still feeling like the last three years were wasted. So I get it. Just my thoughts.
I typically have nothing to say about (The HC we don’t speak of) (The HC we don’t speak of) because he's not here anymore, but I felt like this was a good thread to get out some thoughts and then carry on back to Sumrall's wall building endeavour that is putting up way more bricks each day than I expected. Rise To Build! Go Trojans!

Beating the pants off of "What's His Name's" football team last weekend was very satisfying.
