I'm a huge MLB fan, specifically, of the Braves. One thing that MLB teams do better and more frequently than any other sport is lock up top quality talent long term with contract extensions. These extensions are used to lock up managers, coaches, players, and general managers. CFB does this pretty well with top tier head coaches, but you don't see it much with other personnel. These extensions reward past performance and serve as strategic moves to keep the impacted personnel 1) with the current club (offensive move) and 2) to keep them from going to the competition (defensive move).
In my opinion, TROY Athletics is enjoying unprecedented success. Women's Basketball, Men's basketball (on the rise), Women's volleyball, Baseball, and Softball are all enjoying success. The hire of Jon Sumrall was a boss move that is going to pay HUGE dividends. Our Athletic department is sending teams to other countries, which helps recruiting. Today it was announced the we have surpassed the 10,000 mark for football season tickets sold and are only 600 or so short of the all time record, with a goal of 12,000. Finally, our Athletes have access to what is being reported as one of the best NIL programs in the country.
All of this is happening under the leadership of Brent Jones. I understand that the foundation for some of this success was laid before he became AD, but under his leadership, that success continues and new areas are experiencing the same success. In my opinion, we need to extend the contract of the AD before we lose him to the competition. As is the case with a young superstar baseball player, i.e. Austin Riley of the Braves, the time to extend the contract is while doing so is still affordable. That time, as it relates to the AD's contract is now.
Disclaimer: I'm not the agent of current AD Brent Jones, nor am I his cousin (if you know, you know).
