Sumrall said that he would, and he did. Good for all of them.

Loving these signings. Also showing the ability to recruit nationally. Awesome!

Hoping these two guys are physical and can help. Our track record with success of juco OL is not great. We have had a couple but I would say the percentage is probaly 10-15% that ended up starting. I'm hoping the new OL coach has a good eye for talent because we are really thin at OL and a couple of injuries will be devestating

Ok, I will be that guy. I thought we were going to recruit high school and coach them. I believe a senior class is stronger if they have been together all along. Obviously these additions are talented, but I had a different understanding of HCJS’ vision.

You're going to see a lot more schools taking in transfers to refill their rosters. The guys who left were not just freshman.

I'm also curious as to why these juco guys were still available one month before camp starts?

So, five JUCO OL signed this week, in addition to the two signed when Sumrall first arrived? That's a lot of JUCO OL.

It was one of greatest needs. Pass blocking was pretty good but run offense was not as good as it should have been for our running backs talents. Therefore, bring in guys who will push those already here and just maybe be in a better way with our starters. Not all of the JUCO guys will pan out but they are going to make that room better. As to High School recruiting have to have time to cultivate and establish new coach to start making in roads into good lineman. Thus, guys who have moved out of High School are our best next option.

Are any/ all of these guys eligible for this coming season? It's my understanding JUCO transfers are eligible immediately and don't have to enter the transfer portal. All four I've spoken to so far are going to be on campus by July 4 and doing summer workouts with the intention of being eligible this season.

So again, this is a change from what I understood his vision to be. I’m weary of fielding a team of transfers. It didn’t work in Blakeney’s last years.

Obviously these additions are talented, but I had a different understanding of HCJS’ vision. From what Sumrall said, he feels good about his starting lineup that they have right now, but they want more depth to be able to do what they want to do offensively. I think he's just building the depth with these additions and hoping some of them turn out to be very good.
He'll have more quality depth by filling in with JUCO transfer linemen, versus trying to fill in with high school linemen.

Blakeney also ran the football program MUCH differently than Sumrall is going to. Sumrall will probably put up with less BS.
Blakeney also had the mindset of giving "troubled players" second chances, even though they might not have had the best attitudes... like Josh Jarboe.
Sumrall isn't exactly pursuing transfers who've been kicked off their teams or have been in trouble before.

Obviously these additions are talented, but I had a different understanding of HCJS’ vision. I understand your post, but I DON'T think you had a different understanding of HCJS's OVERALL vision. I think everyone can agree that we currently have some great individuals that are on our roster and the offensive line!! I also think that everyone will agree that in a perfect world, we need 15 - 20 guys that can fill the need of those positions, basically a minimum three deep. ESPECIALLY IF we are going to be physical (as mentioned) THIS year. Back to your "recruit high school", we have been, but have not been adding the depth needed due to scholarship limitations. Currently we have 13 individuals listed on the offensive line (prior to this week's coming additions) with a breakdown of 2 seniors (Austin has been with us since high school), 2 juniors (Jake and Grant have both been with us since high school), 4 sophomores, 2 redshirt freshmen, 3 freshmen. TEN of the 13 have been with us since high school! THIS SEASON begins in 66 days so HCJS is doing what he said we would do, immediately fill some gaps on the OL. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! Looking at the limited information available on these five new men, I think they are going to fit well with our current guys, both in attitude and talent! (Read between the lines, these are NOT the transfers of old). I have not totaled them up, but I think our senior class is probably our smallest group. We only have one wide receiver and one running back that are seniors, BUT I expect them and their understudies to perform this year IN LARGE PART due to the potential of consistently running 12 - 15 offensive linemen on and off the field. I for one am looking forward to POWER T FOOTBALL and watching the "Grunts in the trenches" provide a great offensive front.

Think 205 Legion summed it up well. Think HCJS would needs a pass this first year on the vision of building a roster through the development of HS kids. Yes, he inherited this team and we can see he needs to fill in some potholes on the road. But if he is still taking a lot of JUCO’s in year three plus, you are dead on. IMO, ideally for a school like Troy, you recruit and build through HS and use the Portal to cherry pick DI talent that want an opportunity. Trying to avoid, for the most part the JUCO ranks. But there is always exceptions.
