He will get our TE's tough and physical. Amazing young man to play D1 OL at 5'10

Good news is linebackers are our strongest unit hands down. A good LB coach is going to make a great unit something we will be talking about like we did Bear and Boris. I like Bam personally but we need a different coach assigned to FL. He has under performed recruiting FL and this isn't just my opinion, this is coming from HS coaches I know and talk with so, if our linebacker corps is our strongest unit, why recruit in central fla if it ain’t broke? Whatever, wherever Pogue is doing ain’t broke. I wasn't talking about Pogue. I said we need another coach beside Bam doing FL. Like I stated, this is HS coaches with Troy connections saying this.

I think the only position coach left to be hired is other receivers coach.

Spent 6 years at Karr and maybe went there...we recruit anyone from Karr and it's an immediate upgrade. That program is one of the top in the country.

Maybe we will start recruiting these top programs in LA, MS and TX. 85% of the top programs here in FL (Lakeland, Tampa Jesuit, Tampa Plant, Armwood, St Thomas Aquinas, 80% of the Broward/Miami-Dade schools, Apopka, Dr Phillips, and on and on never ever see a Troy coach). We have Troy former players in those areas with connections to schools pleading and begging Troy to recruit there). These kids end up going to competitors and in some cases helping to beat us)

Crestview, Niceville, and others should be frequent visits.

Thoroughly impressed. There will be some that argue a young staff can be a detriment but if you look up and down at the list of coaches Sumrall (himself included) has compiled you have not just young, hungry coaches (all but two are under 40 I believe) but some damn impressive resumes to go along with that. I don't think it can be understated how impressive this staff he put together is (in my opinion).

IMO it's a slap in the face when you have FBS talent in your own backyard and you either ignore it or see that an SEC school offered the player and pretty much give up. The fact that Josh McCray (Enterprise) and Jalen White (Daleville) are not on Troy's roster right now is one of the biggest indictments on (The HC we don’t speak of) (The HC we don’t speak of) to me than almost anything else. White was not even offered a preferred walk-on (though he wouldn't have taken it) and a former coach on that staff told me "we already have a running back, he won't let me offer another" in regards to White as he was breaking the state rushing record that year. Recruiting McCray was pretty much completely given up on when Kentucky and Arkansas offered him (notice he ended up going to neither).

They should be the best talent available paired with an attitude and personality that fits the program. Sure, it is a whole lot easier if the recruit that fits is next door. Recruiting is a roll of the dice. 5 stars never make just as much as 2-3 stars become All Americans. Hell, our All American LB was an invited walk-on, from South Alabamaâs backyard.

I agree with both of you actually. I really don't care where the recruits come from if they can play. But not recruiting Jalen White was a dumb decision. That kid was extremely talented and it was evident to anyone who had even heard of him.

That's not what I'm saying at all. It's not about what's "easy." It's extremely important to lock up talent in your own backyard, IMO. Kids going to South Alabama, Georgia Southern, Navy, Illinois, etc. from right here is just insane to me, especially when they're just flat out gifted players. Not talking about guys that wouldn't be able to contribute. Even if you're talking about the hometown kid factor of drawing in more people, which the basketball team could use some of, too.

It blew my mind man. And he would have come, too. It wouldn't even be that much of a concern (though I think you at least go after him) if he was a kid that wasn't interested.

If you try to compete in todays game recruiting a 300 mile radius you are going to be mediocre at best. Look everywhere and if the best players are inside that 300 mile radius great but chances are not all are going to be. Bama in 2020 Nat Champinship had only 12 players from AL. Coastal signed players from 9 different states in 2020. If you want to be the best you have to recruit for the best. I don't care where the best players come from but we better be looking past a 300 mile radius to make darn sure
