I'm SOOOOOO sorry to break up the "(The HC we don’t speak of) (The HC we don’t speak of) goes to..." frenzy, but I stumbled across a mic'd up video for Coach Sumrall when he was at Tulane.
Everyone knows he was not my first choice, but I knew he was a good coach, and every time I hear him speak it gives me more confidence. One of the great things I like about him is that he doesn't just stand around and baby sit during practice, he takes the time to TEACH the sport of football. We need that from every coach on the staff.

Anything less than a Sunbelt title next season will be a disappointment.

Anything less than a Sunbelt title next season will be a disappointment. The way he was sold on this message board for months you should think we'll go 15-0 and a national championship. I can be forgiving if that doesn't happen, though.

I will be glad to have a significant improvement and that bare minimum is a 50% win increase in season (2.5 which rounds to 3) so 8 wins (since going West) and a bowl victory so total 9 wins year one. You never know about injury's or stuff like that so a bare minimum of 7 wins season with a bare minimum of 8 wins with bowl. However, I will take 14-0.

Not impressed with these coaching hires but want to be pleasantly surprised. Head coach (co DC) and OC is not proven as a coordinator. I’m beginning to believe we can’t attract talent to come to Troy. I hope we don’t have three 5-7 seasons ahead. Joe Moorhead went to Akron!!!! Clay Helton to Georgia Southern!!!! Talented coaching and players are out there!!!!!

Since you already found the reputable football community’s reaction to these hires, can you share where they have written they are impressed. I would like to see what specifically they are saying. Thanks UAB can find a good replacement TE coach pretty easily.

You look silly.

You look silly. Why do the work when my fellow Trojan has already done and will share ? Don’t do things over and over again. Be smart. Or maybe it’s not out there ? So says you he was more involved. LOL. All the coaches are involved in more than coaching their positions, even the GA and analysts. Don’t be dumb. Curious if he is such a crazy good hire why wasn’t he in a more high profile job ? Always a question to ask.

Craddock was nominated for a Broyles Award at SMU in year 3. It took time to put together the pieces but he had a top ranked offense. I fully believe he would have done the same with Arkansas if he wasn’t at the bottom of the barrel looking up. People are so quick to assume Troy can go out and hire HC talent to be our OC. I love Troy as much as the next guy but some people actually think we can compete with P5 money… I think we found a diamond in the rough.

And some folk just like to talk in circles about general topics on a message board without specific references to facts. It's called message board fun to some. Others do it just to see their names with big post #'s. Get used to it, just part of the.... fun?

He posted that the football community stated they were great hires. Just wanted to see the specifics of those comments. I don't have all the links, but I can tell you Kentucky fans are in love with Sumrall, and a large portion of them believe Troy is a stepping stone for him to become the next head coach at Kentucky. You can find this on twitter and on their message boards. UAB fans really wanted Craddock to become their OC, and are bummed that he left for Troy. You can find that in their Joe Craddock thread on Blazertalk.com. App State wanted to hire Wood a few years back, but couldn't make it happen. Wood spent a lot of time with their former DC and their fans thought he might be the heir apparent. They believe this is a very solid hire. Georgia State fans agree, as both APP and GSU are running defenses from the same coaching tree, Nate Woody. Many in the media have raved about how good the Sumrall hire is, having spoken with coaches around the country. All of this can be found online, but I don't have the desire to pull article after article, and frankly it's just not that important to me. I have some of the same reservations about experience, and I'm sure there will be growing pains. These are much more well respected and experienced coordinators than what (The HC we don’t speak of) brought in, but it's not the on the level of what Neal brought in. We'll have to see how it shakes out.

I noticed the inside football facility where Tulane was practicing. I’m looking forward to the day Troy has one.
On another note, we’ve all seen head coaches be successful at smaller programs only to leave for a “bigger” deal. If money wasn’t an object, and you could be content at your current job, would you rather become a long term coaching legend where you’re at - or roll the dice and move on? I know no one can predict success or failure at a bigger program, but if you’re consistently successful where you’re at and building a program, I think personally I would want to keep the momentum. Also, hopefully, one day a National Championship will be an opportunity all schools can build towards.

I will say Brandon Hall was a good DC in the end. Yes, the legit general football community has detailed the JS hire as a good one. JS has a lot of potential and unknown as a HC.
