For all of us we enjoy college football and bowl games are falling like flies. Many of you know my slight obsession with Covid numbers trends etc. A whole lot of folks are going to get this round (please don’t panic) and if over 50 and any co-morbidities get your shot and you are going to be ok but probably still many are going to get it (Covid). However, my point is not too many games are fer shers at this point if any and that is sad for all college football fans. Maybe the CFP will rethink this and allow for the CFP to be played as late as second week in February when much of this will have swept thru.

I hate it for the student athletes that put in hard work to win and play in a bowl game.

Just stinks for these bowl teams. We will be fine as long as the common sense that seems to be catching on continues to spread with half the contagiousness of Omicron.

We're all going to die and it shall be the winter of death... So long as hospitals don't get backed up again we'll be largely okay. Having to leave heart attack and stroke patients floundering in the ER because there are no beds or having to postpone major necessary surgeries because there are also no beds sucks. The downside of being rural and having limited resources.

The downside of being rural and having limited resources. We had that very thing contributing to a cardiac demise. We were up to 45 Covid patients and basically while licensed for 107 we really function at 85 beds. We do not have a cardiac unit and no cardiologist. So being in rural area does have issues. The admit rates even with larger numbers should be ok. At least we hope. We have been fortunate not to run out of Regeneron but we are dosing quite a few a day at this point.

The downside of being rural and having limited resources. The difficulties you mention are not limited to rural locations with limited resources. I'm in Dothan, and my facility can hardly be labeled rural, with limited resources (the last term is relative, even Elon Musk has limited resources, it's jus a BIG limit). We too restricted surgeries and are constantly in a bed crunch, the latter of which was true before Covid, but was only made worse by the two previous surges.

Is it accurate that the omicron variant is less deadly than the previous COVID-19 variants?
Or is it just as deadly?

Is it accurate that the omicron variant is less deadly than the previous COVID-19 variants? Or is it just as deadly? Since the beginning of the Covid outbreak, there have been those who have said, erroneously, that Covid was just a bad cold or flu. It can be said with Omicron, however, that it’s symptoms are cold like….sneezing, runny nose, sore throat. I have heard of no one, that means zero people, even being admitted to the hospital FOR symptoms related to Omicron infection. It is nowhere near as lethal as the previous strains…more contagious, but less lethal. Appreciate what you are witnessing (not making light of the seriousness of what we’ve been through) because we are witnessing natural selection at work, a process that usually takes centuries to occur.

Appreciate what you are witnessing (not making light of the seriousness of what we’ve been through) because we are witnessing natural selection at work, a process that usually takes centuries to occur. You mean Omicron is part of natural selection? Or what exactly do you mean? As a virus mutates, it becomes more infectious but less lethal. If mutations led to the virus being more lethal, the hosts would eventually die in higher numbers than than would allow for the survival of the virus…the more frequently and the more rapidly the host(s) die, the less likely the virus will be able to spread. All viruses, as they mutate, become more contagious but less lethal. This ensures the species’ survival, therefore natural selection is at work. Those unfortunate people who were among the first to be infected with an adenovirus (common cold) more than likely died from it.
