Weird to some of y'all but that rivalry doesn't mean much at all to younger group. I'd say a majority of our current students weren't born last time they played in 2001.

Sure. We lost the Palladium forever, might as well kiss the Old School Bell goodbye while we are clearing out the trophy case. Quite frankly, we need to get our act together if we don't want to fall behind these clowns too and we headed down that slippery slope right now.

I'm curious to see if Jax State actually does it. They've got some hefty financial obligations they need to smooth out first...
Jax State JUST left the Ohio Valley Conference to join the Atlantic Sun Conference... and they had to pay a $500,000 entrance fee to join the A-Sun.
On top of that, Jax State has been sued by the OVC for not paying the $1 million exit fee yet... and the OVC is also suing Jax State for $15,000 in ticket revenue that Jax State owes the conference from the OVC Basketball Tournament.
And now, if Jax State really is moving up to the FBS... it is going to have to pay at least a $1 million exit fee to the A-Sun... and then pay a $2 million entrance fee to join Conference USA (unless C-USA decides to waive it).
Jax State is also suppsed to begin a $80 million cafeteria/student dorm/stadium renovation at the end of 2021.
They will also have to increase the coaching salary pool for their football program if they enter the FBS.
That's A LOT of money for Jax State to come up with.

...and Sam is in no better shape. CDOA is just prolonging the inevitable.
I remember going to a game here over two decades ago; nothing has changed - just like the lower home side of our stadium.

I don't know about the rest of you but whether it is CODA conversation or anything I for one am glad to see our own Confucius back with a vengeance. For a long time we thought the HO had disappeared (or worse )had befallen our great sage. Alas to the thrill of this board he rose like a phoenix from the ashes of a self imposed (or worse) purgatory much like Troyset to once again give us an insight that only the HO could present. However, I am a little worried that he is integrating too much into American society or perhaps just the vernacular colloquialisms of this board. His accent seems to be disappearing more and more. All I can say is welcome back and perhaps we should start calling you Bubba Ho since your return. That may better fit the more integrated Ho of today.

Seriously though will be interesting to see if A-CUSA waives the entrance fee or B-Liberty helps out SHSU and Jax State and they can pay them back over time.

Other than winning 25 straight conference titles, it's a bad move for Liberty. It's like Saturn and its moons. That $2bn endowment let's dole out leadership scholarships to players, build 1st class facilities and pay names to come play in Lynchburg. Ain't nobody going to play an away game at Sam Houston at that dump. I find it hard to believe that anyone would play at Jax either.

You say this but we played multiple “rivalry” games at that dump in Mobile. Have to walk a muddy dirt road to even get in the gates? No thank you.

I don’t know why they couldn’t just PAY for these teams to join since they’re collecting a cool 36M in exit fees once all is said and done.

Although if I’m Liberty you’d have to pay me all 36M to entice me into this mangled up heap of rejects. Lol

We shouldn’t play any CUSA teams. This is a glorified FCS conference. Let’s focus on SBC and AAC teams.

Due to fitting in new SBC members and already scheduled OOC games this will be a while till this “option” of Jax St comes up. I was not around Troy athletics when they were enemy number one but it does sound like the potential for playing an intense set of OOC might be there. Their simple moving up will equate to recruiting competition. I’m not sure if us not playing them truly slows their progress down. Might be worth a scheduled 2 games about 6-10 years down the road.
I also hope we go to a 9 game conference schedule with a payout game and hopefully an AAC game per year. The 9 game schedule would allow us to see a home and home with the opposite division oft enough to make everyone feel that you really are in the same conference. Eight takes a long time to go thru home and home series with the other side.
Have not worked the math since there are variable ways of rotating thru the other division but essentially we are looking at a 2-3 year difference to get home and home on an 8 vs 9 schedule

Anyways, hosting FCS teams is pretty established, just don't play at their places. P5 is trying to break away and we should be aware of who we are being associated with. On the other hand, having two complete different landscapes P5 vs G5 would make everything more organized. In this case, G5 would be a new modern version of 1AA essentially with its own bowl system, Top25, etc.

Troy scheduling JSU makes as much sense to us as Alabama scheduling Troy.
What’s in it for us?
