He is going to have to either recruit a stud HS qb or Juco up because he doesn't remotely have a qb there to run his offense

(The HC we don’t speak of) is my guy Besides I kind of wanted Clay (name starts with C) 4 letters that I can remember easily and he coached Trojans before........I wish he was still around but he is not so (The HC we don’t speak of) because...............he reminds of one of those Terracotta wariiors. Kind of stands there and looks dumb and has a real flat personality. Yep that's it pretty worthless but makes one heck of a yard decoration for the wife!!!

Meh.
Wouldn’t want him at Troy.
But It will bring some buzz the Sunbelt.
Can’t wait for Hawkins and his pet AD Jones to march out the latest SEC retread or unqualified SEC assistant as the new coach. That’s if they even have the brussel sprouts to do it.

The ONE THING I will say about this hire for GSU… They understand the importance of continuity even when switching out HCs. He might not coach this season, but Helton is already going to be introduced and active in spectating practice next week.
Their administration understands that they’re in an unusual and GOOD position at the same time. Hire him now, introduce him to current players so they can feel out the situation and hopefully not enter the portal, and then in the rest of his free time he can personally hit the recruiting trail and assemble his future staff.
I’ve never seen an institution do it like this, but we would have been wise to follow in these footsteps.

Two many personal agendas, and people trying to get their buddies hired. Not an objective viewpoint for what’s best for the program. BUT, little confidence in Hawkins and boy Jones making a decent hire. So we jus wait and cross our fingers and toes and hope we get someone who doesn’t completely bottom the program

I’m saying that it’s already too late to pull off a coaching switch to the same level of success they just did. Unless we hire an absolute bombshell. Which we won’t.

He checks my boxes which are: 1) Troy guy. He understands the culture of the school and the town. 2) proven defensive coordinator. Better accolades than (The HC we don’t speak of) dreamed of in his nastiest of dreams. 3) heâs an NFL staple. Recruiting is much easier when people know that they could have an NFL connection in the program. 4) heâs not ChipSh*t. Those are in no specific order, because honestly #4 is my #1 thing Iâm looking for in a new coach.

Be careful because we all know Troy guys won't cut it...never mind the NFL playing and Coaching experience and high-level coaching experience at three different serious college programs, including one or two National Championships (who's counting at this point). And you forget kids today have no interest in his NFL connections and no high school coach in Bammer would be open to visiting with him and forget about visits to kids homes (that would be a disaster, who would listen to him about him excelling on the same field and graduating from the same school) and no way a few 4star outliers might actually consider TMTDM. No, we need Art Carbunkle because he led West Georgia to GulfSouth titles two years in a row. He's a proven winner and we need to hire him before UTEP does. Ansley? Move along, there is nothing to see here.

Yes, the decision boils down to Hawkins (and that keeps me up at night) but players know stuff that academics don't. At least get some input. I'm a nobody as a former player, these guys aren't. If we don't get it right we are going to spiral into being TX St or ULM

Yeah, things like cheating were national scandals...so much so that 60 Minutes would do a story on it. 20 years later Cam had his own personal ATM at Victoryland...and even involved federal TARP Funds and nothing happened.

I'd take the HC from the Altoona State Tech Grease Monkeys if he had enough conference championships and playoff runs. I'm tired of putting money on assistants with no HC experience.
If Ansley, or Sumrall, are hired, I will root for them, and I will sincerely hope they are everything they've been made out to be by fans here. But they've been made out to be know-all, do-all, football messiahs, and I will expect them to win DAY ONE, no rebuild, just win.
