Just keeping this discussion going...you want a resume and someone who is focused on the little things, well here ya go: Mic'd Up: Coach Ansley at Senior Bowl practiceCoach Ansley recaps Tuesday's Senior Bowl practice: "Study your craft"Forget that he brought the wood out every game he played for TMTDM, you don't get jobs in the NFL unless you are focused and can motivate. It's a 24/7 job - literally. Oh yeah, the Chargers currently have the number #2 pass defense in the NFL. www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2021/opp.htm#all_passingHe's the most qualified person out there - period. We have talent. It's one thing to get beat because of talent. #15 might be the most exciting player in the G5 and our defense is right there. We just need someone focused, can motivate the team to play at a high level and keep players running to the portal at seasons end. I can't help think we lost at least three games this year because of simple knuckleheadedness. NELa. SoCar and last night.

Although not exactly what we need in my opinion,
I would 100% take Ansley over the Linebackers Coach Sumrall or any other SEC assistants people are toting on this board because they we friendly at their tailgate a few times.
Ansley would bring a fresher approach.

Ansley would bring a fresher approach. Just to clarify for all who say Sumrall has never been a coordinator. He has three times been a Co-Coordinator. At San Diego, at Tulane and now at Kentucky. Not saying anything about his head coaching worthiness but he has done more than just be a linebackers coach.

In fact having to chose from these two and maybe more of their quality is a blessing and an indication of the respect the program still has. FYI: We still need to upgrade the lower half of the home side.

Never met Sumrall at a tailgate but I did notice that he has been a Assistant HC ... to Neal Brown at Troy for three years. Not a bad HC to serve with.

If he checks off the intangibles ok but there are more qualified candidates out there and I think we need a proven HC this time imo Who? Rich Rodriguez? No thanks. Skip Holtz might be available too. Neal Brown brought a ton of Head Coaching experience to Troy. And Ansley doesn't check every box? Which box is he missing? Seems he has everything you have been begging for during the game - discipline, organization, game management, motivation, respect.

Hey, I like the guy but he just is not what Troy needs right now. Some coaches are better assistants than head coaches. This has played out so often. Neal was ready to be a HC, it was dripping off of him. Jon, not so much. Have met Jon and Neal, Jon Sumrall is no Neal Brown. Again not to say Jon is not a good guy, just not the right choice.

The overall agreement is NOT (The HC we don’t speak of). Someone else please. Hopefully someone with some passion (no undertakers like (The HC we don’t speak of) need apply) Someone who has been around a little while. Someone confident yet humble to God and community. Someone not so steadfast in belief that they can take a round peg and place in square hole because it's his plan and players will adjust to it verses adjusting to players strength. KEEP RUSTY WHITT if you can because the guys over past couple years are a lot stronger than they were. The new head coach must be able to look out on the field and the clock is down to 3 seconds and we are fourth and one in critical standpoint and if punting you could easily know that moving back 5 yards is no biggie............................so what do you do.........................call time out and instead of going for it you punt and for goodness sake we could not move back 5 yards and do that. So ask that question of any potential head coach and if they pause and consider punting......................................NO

I'd love to have Coach Ansley if he'd take the job.

My question for anyone pitching candidates: Would the person be interested in leading a flailing Troy program? Seems to me a lot more stress for a lot less money doesn't seem attractive.

It’s the opportunity to become a head coach at a program that can set yourself up for the Power 5 multi million contract. The contract that sets you up for the rest of your and your grandchildren’s lives.
