"We're going to let him play his way into a rhythm and hopefully, the next couple weeks in practice, he'll get to do that because he'll get the reps with the ones," (The HC we don’t speak of) said. "He and Gunnar are similar in that they are both smart guys and spend a lot of time studying film. Taylor has great pocket awareness and can escape inside the pocket and keep his eyes downfield. *One of the things that showed up over and over was his ability to make plays on the move."**
In Watson, the Trojans have one of the best No. 2 quarterbacks in the country. He started nine games in 2020 and led the Sun Belt averaging 237.9 yards per game. Watson ranked seventh nationally, completing 70.1 percent of his passes and 11th with 23.44 completions per game.

I came here to post this. Congratulations Taylor! Does he have a nickname yet? We gotta give him one. He is from Arkansas, so we could name him "The Arkansas Assassin." <--- cause you know the killing clintons.

I do believe that he was a good choice but game time is game time. The one thing I do like about him over Gunnar is the release is quicker. He is a a little more Barker like in his ability to get around and keep the play going and I think that is exactly how he got the nod. However, you need a good two who can at any point be a one. Gunnar knows that and he will get plenty of downs as well. Looking forward to the season. I just think it is likely that both guys will get quite a bit of play time in game one before the dust settles for game two.

2 good ones! Would have like to have had a quality backup like one of this guys last year!

Congrats to the young man.
It will be interesting to see what happens if he doesnât produce enough, whether or not (The HC we don’t speak of) gives Watson a chance. Powell is (The HC we don’t speak of) transfer chosen one.

The first I thought whoever is #2 is transferring that's just the way college is now. But I'm ready to see this guy play. I hope Gunnar stays he played well in a tough year. Also you never can tell what a season might bring about. Under 10 days now before T Time GO TROJANS!!

Y’all watch out! With Watsons stats the ole Portal may be calling! It's a long season ahead, anything can happen. One would be foolish to "Take the Portal" route during the season.

He is not going anywhere to be named number one right away. So at best #2 in an unknown situation, scheme, players and coaches. Not sure about next year but nope on this one.

I can't wait to see what Powell can do. He seems like a real leader, and an EXTREMELY hard worker.
I'm all about a QB that looks like Barker. I had a feeling Powell's running abilities would give him some sort of an advantage.

“Running advantage” is an oxymoron and the number one reason Watson should sit tight.

“Running advantage” is an oxymoron and the number one reason Watson should sit tight. Ridiculous. Dual threat QBs are labeled as such for good reason. Whether or not Powell is actually a true RPO QB is another story.

Barker couldn't stay healthy,Dual threat invites the other edge of the sword and can be a detriment is all I'm saying.

From what I've seen of his playing time at Missouri... he's got quite a bit of speed. I didn't realize how fast he was. I can see how he would be very good at extending plays and picking up yards with his feet...

Barker is a great teammate and pretty good QB at the D-1 level, but he made bad decisions sometimes and he would get frustrated at times with those decisions. He had a hard time letting that go and from time to time that frustration would bleed over into the next play.

Neal Brown ran Barker as a true RPO QB, where (The HC we don’t speak of) didn't allow him to run him near as much, and maybe that's because there was no true backup in 2019 if Barker were to get injured. We'll have to see if he opens up the playbook for Powell.

I just wonder if anyone here screaming we are so glad we got a dual threat quarterback has actually watched any of the scrimmages.
Powell has not consistently moved the offense at all. First scrimmage he didn’t move the ball. Second scrimmage he had zero touchdowns to Watsons 4.
Just call this situation for what it is. A desperate coach trying to go out and get “his guy” so when he had another mediocre year he can beg for another contract because he needs more time with “his guy”.
Gunnar will not transfer because that is not the kind of guy he is. He shouldn’t transfer because this should be Chips last year and maybe we can get a coach that actually develops the run so the entire offense is not predictable.
It’s time to Make Troy Great Again and fire Fester.
